Thank you, Liz, for this link. It lists the iodine content for several common foods.

Food Source Nutrient content per 100 grams (~ 7 tablespoons)

Seaweed

61,990 mcg*

Iodized salt

10,000 mcg

Cod liver oil

838 mcg

Seafood, fish (depending on type of fish)

36-311 mcg

Seafood, shellfish (depending on type of shellfish)

31-129 mcg

Sea salt

94 mcg

* mcg = micrograms

I could not find where they got their data, but this seems like a good first pass, and an easy way to be able to compare the relative iodine values in different foods.

I do not know what type of seaweed they were referencing, probably kelp. As we learned from Jane Teas' article, different seaweeds have enormously different levels of iodine.

The other source I have found so far on cod liver oil (Norwegian Cod Liver Oil) says it "contains up to 150 mcg of iodine per 100 g". http://www.mothernature.com/shop/detail.cfm/sku/42954

Zoe

The following website has the iodine content of 100 grams (7.025 tablespoons) of cod liver oil to be 838 mcg. http://www.chwframe.staywellsolutionsonline.com/modules/HealthLib/Iodine.asp
