Guest guest
When choosing between the 2 evils, I'd go with the colonoscopy full sedation. The cleanout process (prep) is the same anyway. 2 years ago when I was 52 my doctor pretty much trapped me into having the test done as a routine thing for " old folks " . I said I didn't need it etc etc so he said well go with the sigmoidoscopy you don't need sedation with that since it is just the lower end. Maybe I just can't tolerate gas, but I will tell you it was the most excrutiating experience of my life. I have had 4 children and none of those childbirthing pain was that bad. I ended up screaming for the doc to stop the test but undaunted he just kept on going and asking me if I had adhesions from a surgery (No, this was before my gallbladder was removed, but maybe I got adhesions from pregnancies?). With both proceedures, they pump your intestines full of carbon dioxide to inflate them like a long balloon. That is what is so painful, the gas. So if I am ever forced to endure another test like this ever again, I want to be knocked out with general anesthesia. Just my personal experience, Shefy. My sis had a regular colonoscopy under sedation and she said it was nothing. Just a little groggy afterwards. You have to get a ride home. They won't let you drive afterwards. With a sigmoidoscopy you can drive home alone but be prepared to be in a bad mood. shefy7 <shefy7@...> wrote: Hello all, I reded my bloodwork and my sedimentation rate is still high (it was 38, now it's 40). Everything else is good. He also thinks I have IBS bc of constipation and rare diarhea. I am going to start actigall in a few days to help shrink the stones (4 stones, 2 are about 10mm and the rest are smaller). He is recommending a flexible sigmoidoscopy will be good for me because of my age (22) and no history in the family of cancer. The preparation is the same, but the flex sig. doesn't require sedation. I sometimes have pain in my appendix area, lower right stomach, after eating...that's why I'm wondering whether or not to have the colonoscopy. Of course I would want as little as procedure as possible...Maybe I should have the flex. sig. and if they don't find anything and I continue to have symtoms then get the colonoscopy....Any suggestions? Guest guest
Hm...sounds scary. Isn't there a high risk of perforating the colon when pumping air in there? Guest guest
I've only heard of that happening once, and that was in auto shop some guys goofing around and one guy thought it would be funny to goose another with the air compressor hose. He popped and died. That story is spread in shop safety class so you don't get any ideas. However if a doctor does it, it doesn't get around campus if you know what I mean. They keep it quiet. Colon perforizations are more likely to happen when they are doing a biopsy and have too much pressure going in, or during surgery. Even lasers can do it. They will have you sign a consent form saying you want the test, and will not hold them responsible for accidents. But if they do you can sue anyway. I have no clue on statistics. I just hope this is not a test that your doctor wants you to have without concrete reason for it. Doing colonoscopy is something they are selling you. You will probably get a Rx for some drug afterwards. That is part of business. Kinda like upholstery business. You think you go in to a shop just to get a rip fixed on your seat. Well, somebody is going to sell you a whole new seat cover and after that, a bottle of their favorite kind of leather treatment. that is business. This book Prescription for nutritional healing says you should be taking essential fatty acids for protect the lining, and L-Glutamine(amino acid), a major metabolic fuel for intestinal cells and maintains the villi (absorbtion surfaces in the lining), also Vit B complex plus extra B12 Also need probiotics, colstrum, fiber, free form amino acid complex and garlic It also mentions if you have IBS to treat the liver too. Milk Thistle, licorice, alfalfa, aloe vera, pepperment, skullcap and valerain for your nerves. there are other herbs mentioned that are helpful. shefy gupta <shefy7@...> wrote: Hm...sounds scary. Guest guest
IMO, diagnosis is a great idea as long as it is not invasive. I have had good results with an expert iridologist. Guest guest
I too have had great results with Iridoligy. It is performed by reading the eyes. It shows all parts of the body, and where there is cause for concern. <xander95608@...> wrote: Is that the virtual body scan? koyd24 wrote: IMO, diagnosis is a great idea as long as it is not invasive. Guest guest
OK here's the NEW dilemma. I finally get up the nerve to get a colonoscopy. Turns out my gastro. now DOESN'T recommend a colonoscopy, he wants a flex. sig. There's no way to email or speak to him directly, I must go through his RUDE and " smart ... " assistant. The funny thing is that the reason he gave for not doing it is my AGE! Not mentioning maybe the symptoms don't fit any disease or the let's do a xray first or anything! Just my age! Go figure! I told him I shouldn't even being having this problem at 22....I've heard of kids under 10 being diagnosed with crohns and uc and stuff, but this guy isn't recommending it bc of my age....I'm so irritated. Even my generap practioner dr. recomened a colonoscopy b4 seeing any bloodwork, just looking at my history and symptoms he said I should have one...I should have done it then...Well now I've had to switch to another gastro., a female one, maybe they are more understanding. It should take almost a month to get an appt. with her then another month to get an appt. for a colonoscopy. That's kaiser for you... Usually doctors can't convince patients to do tests, but now that I'm asking him for one....he's being " whatever you wanna call him " Just bc I'm being active in my diagnosis and solution, they get all paranoid and defensive....I thought they might be happy that I ask so many questions and try to stay under their 15 min/patient law. hahahhaha. I hope my next gastro. specialist is decent. I think I'll file a complaint against this guy. Any opinions or similar expereinces? Guest guest
Shefy, I would highly recommend you read the book " The Makers Diet " by Dr. Jordan Rubin. At a young age he suffered Crohns disease/IBS and had a terrible time getting relief for his symptoms and from all the toxic burden of drugs from doctors. He almost died. A man brought him back to health by using a diet consistent with what the bible states were the foods of that era. Dr. Rubin has a line of products called Garden of Life, http://gardenoflife.com/ and I am a huge fan of his Primal Defense, a probiotic. I find his products very effective, but costly. However, a bottle of PD for $50 is more effective than the $75 you will pay for a 15 minute office visit! I have recommended PD to others who suffer from IBS and it has relieved their symptoms if not cured the problem. You still need to do a bowel cleanse but the PD will inhabit the bowel with the good bacteria needed to get healthy. Also, if doing a cleanse, don't take the PD until after the cleanse or else you are just flushing it away. As a favor to those who get the digest, when you reply to the list, please try to delete all the excess info at the bottom of the message so they don't have to keep scrolling through repetitive info. Guest guest
I have Kaiser too, and at age 52 I asked for a bone density test. I was denied because of my age, too young!?! He said we test for bone density at age 60 in women unless I weighed under 130 pounds. But he wanted me to have a colonoscopy because I had passed 50 (and weight is no factor, I am about 20 pounds overweight) even though I had NO symptoms to warrent it. He said they wanted a baseline or something to that effect. I didnt want it at all so he said get the flex-sigmoid and that of course I regret and will NEVER do again. Now I can't trust the test even under sedation because I know how rough and persistant he was trying to examine MORE than what was discussed. So it was a lie. They don't just look at the sigmoid colon (descending) they will go past the bend into the transverse colon and that is where he really had problems and made me scream. Anyway, my colon looked perfect except for 3 brand new hemmoroids caused by the " cleanout " chemicals. Fortunately those cleared up in a few days. Have you tried drinking Aloe vera juice? That might help. shefy gupta <shefy7@...> wrote: OK here's the NEW dilemma. I finally get up the nerve to get a colonoscopy. Guest guest
Huh that's weird....They did a bone density on my mom at like 45, and she weighs a little over 130, but she's only 5 ft. She's had pain in that area ever since...Funny you mention aloe vera, I just bought a few plants to use as a toner. I was scared of putting it inside my body of course. The bottles of aloe vera in stores here have many other ingredients and they're always in plastic.... Is it alright to just take off a stick of the aloe vera and drink the gel down with some water? Thanks Shefy <xander95608@...> wrote: I have Kaiser too, and at age 52 I asked for a bone density test. I was denied because of my age, too young!?! Guest guest
Hi: I drink aloe vera daily. 1/2 glass. I is great for digestion, constipation, and other abdominal trouble. I have a friend who had pain in his abdomen and had everything his gastroenterologyst could think of doing. found nothing and gave up. A neighbor suggested aloe and in 3 months the pain was gone. Go for it! koyd24 <c_dyok@...> wrote: Yup, very common to drink Aloe vera from a plant. > > Hello all, > > I reded my bloodwork and my sedimentation rate is still high (it > was > > 38, now it's 40). Guest guest
I had tried drinking aloe vera juice about 20 yrs ago, gave me headaches. I was told this was the detox working. The brand was Forever Living Products, the juice had a bit of citrus or lemon flavor. Mostly i was using it for my skin. <lindae321@...> wrote: Hi: I drink aloe vera daily. 1/2 glass.
