X-Post Saturday night dance in Olympia

Hi:

This is something I posted to BBWNorthwest today. I recall seeing a couple

of bandsters at the last dance, hope this might bring out a few more.

If anyone here in Olympia area wants to go dancing, consider United Singles.

They have dances on alternate Saturdays (there is one thissaturday Aug 28) at

the Thurston County Fairgrounds in Lacey. Hours run 8PM to midnight, they

are BYOB, and they have pop for $1 a can but you can certainly bring your own

in. They have some snacks out as well as coffee, tea, chocolate etc, The

admission is $12 for

nonmembers and guests of members while it is $6 for members. If a member

stays aft to help clean up I believe they give you a pass good for a future

dance

(SRC in Tacoma does that too). The music ranges from country to modern rock

along with line dances, scottisches, country chacha, sometimes some jitterbugs

and swing.

Rememeber how to do the twist? many here do.

They typically start the dancing with a snowball where a few couples get out

and dnace then the music stops and thje couples split up to each get another

partner and that continues for a while. After a mid dance break they do a

routine where men line up on one side and women on the other facing the music.

They pair off and then dance down the " aisle " to separate and rejoin their

respective lines. So those that want to dance can be seen by others as dancing.

They also have " Ladies choice numbers " .

The attendees seem to run in age from late 20s to mid 70s. There is a 70 YO

guy thats a marvelous dancer, he inspires me and there is a woman in her mid

70s there too. There are guys in cowboy hats. Women dress in anything from

jeans and blouse up to dresses and suits.

I started going when i still weighed 330 or so, I was never rejected for a

dance by any woman because of size (amazing how sensitive we become to that??).

I see other

BHMs there and know of BBWs there too.

I'm going to this dance on Saturday. I'll try to get there by 7:30 to get a

table if people let me know that they are coming. Some of you will likely

know me, I haven't been to one of our events since last Spring in Tacoma though.

Or e-mail me that you are coming and I'll likely be able to tell you what i am

wearing. I'm not looking for a harem, I just like to dance and remember how

the BBWs of NAAFA, SDeattleBBW

and here helped me recover from shyness loneliness and isolation.

United Singles also has a Friday night TGIF at the Moose hall in Lacey.

I think it runs from 5 or 5:30 PM until 8PM. Admission is only $2 but you

have to sign in and you can only do that a couple times before you have to

join
