What a royal pain it must be for you-good luck! > > I need some advice don't know if its got anything to do with the > thyroid but I am having periods every two weeks and they are just > getting far to heavy is there any thing I can take to help. > thanks >
Guest guest
Hi , Just a thought, are you on the contraceptive pill? I know from experience that years ago when I was switched from the combined pill to a progesterone only pill, my periods went to being very heavy and every 2 weeks. Bleeding heavily for 6 days every fortnight isn't conducive to having a sex life so I dumped the pills and, hey presto, within a few cycles my periods had returned to their 28 day cycle with 5 days of moderate bleeding. I seem to recall being prescribed something called ponstan when the bleeding had been very heavy. Unfortunately, if anything, it made me bleed even more, so I don't know the logic of that! Apparently it is supposed to reduce menstrual bleeding and probably does for everyone else but me ;-) I'd also add, if you use an IUD and get unusual bleeding, then definitely see the doc. Heavy menstrual bleeding is also both a cause and result of low iron reserves, so take a good iron supplement to cover yourself from that angle. Guest guest
hi everyone, Thanks I have got an appointment with the doctor on the 6th so will chat to her about it. I do have a underactive thyroid and I remember this happening when I was first diagnosed. I had the marina fitted but had far to many water infections with it so had it removed and every thing was ok for almost a year and its started again. I cant go on the pill because of high blood pressure. I might be wrong but I think it is something to do with the thyroid but I know the doctor will say it isn't. Thanks thyroid treatment From: lisahendy@...Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2007 10:56:06 +0000Subject: Re: Any sugesstions , i don't know if you have seen your doctor about this or not, but clearly it bothers you. Guest guest
Hi Please ask your GP to test your Ferritin to see whether this is low or not. Ferritin is your stored iron. You need to have a number above 70 in a reference range of 20 to 200. Lower than that you will need to start a course of elemental iron, something like 200 mgs Ferrous Sulphate. Another thing with low ferritin, sufferers can get all the symptoms of hypothyroidiosm and it can also CAUSE hypothyroidism - something I learned only recently. If your doctor won't test this, you can get it tested at NPTech Services. See the tests they do and the prices they charge in the document in our FILES. Scroll down to 'NPTech Services' - it's all there. Guest guest
hi sheila, I had my bloods done last week i am hoping she did the Ferritin blood test. I go back to see her on the 6th so hopefully I will find out then. Its strange because all my symptoms have been playing up since this problem started so it could be the iron level low. thyroid treatment From: sheilaturner@...Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2007 18:43:33 +0000Subject: Re: Re: Any sugesstions Hi Please ask your GP to test your Ferritin to see whether this is low or not. Guest guest
Hi , With me things got so bad ( I was also on progesterone only- though I felt better on combined) that even after a D & C I was still bleeding so badly that I ended up with a hysterectomy. As you have high BP I think that you probably don’t have optimum thyroid replacement- either undermedicated or needing some T3 due to inability to convert. I don’t know if this would have saved my womb, but some folk do say that better hypo treatment has improved periods. Try to get TSH free T4 and Free T3- this last is a bit of a lottery and some areas won’t do this even if the doc asks. hi everyone, Thanks I have got an appointment with the doctor on the 6th so will chat to her about it. Guest guest
Hi , Do you feel that you are ovulating each 2 weeks? I ask because if not then alternate ones could be mid-cycle bleeding and if so should be investigated I believe. Ovulation signs are more vaginal lub or I used to notice a tiny "pain" in the ovary site which was rather like someone coiling a pin around there, or sometimes more painful, but generally not lasting long. Do you feel that your thyroid levels are optimum? Val I need some advice don't know if its got anything to do with the thyroid but I am having periods every two weeks and they are just getting far to heavy is there any thing I can take to help.thanks
Guest guest
I had the marina fitted but had far to many water infections with it so had it removed and every thing was ok for almost a year and its started again. Thanks I am assuming this is a coil. I had a polyp causing me problems which I am convinced was caused by the coil. After it was removed (D & C) I had no more problems for years. I would ask to see a consultant to find out. Val
Guest guest
I'm assuming you mean a MERINA coil? I had a laugh at least in trying to imagine a doctor trying to insert a marina!! (All those yachts must have caused problems!!!)
