Guest guest
I get it too! I also get a tight band after having cold drinks. When the band gets tight like that. I have a couple sips of warm water and I am fine after that. Guest guest
Theresa, this is very very common. this is why learning good stress control techniques is so important with banding. We talk about this often. We can not stop the stress in today's world, but we CAN learn to deal with it and minimize it so it does not hurt us. this is part of the Bandster " lifetyle " changes we talk about so often. The stress hormones released when we are stressed wreak havoc with the band. They swell tissues, close the esophagus, raise blood pressure and heart rate (not good) and more. Also, the cortisol hormones released impact insulin production, and make it much harder to lose weight. THose chronically stressed usually have a very hard time doing well. Guided imagery, breathing techniques, specific stress-control techniques, good counsellors, and more is very important. Please consider using the Bandster Success Guided Imagery CD's that address all thse issues - www.BandsterME.com . Guided Imagery was a huge help for me, and I still use it regularly to keep my journey on track. Sandy > > Hi All! > > Am I the only one who gets a tight band when stressed? Guest guest
Tightening with cold is common too. Since the stomach is muscle tissue, it shrinks and contracts with cold, and opens and relaxes with warmth just like any other muscle. We can actually use this to our advantageto fine-tune the band - drinking hot things, as with First Bite syndrome, that will open and relax the stoma. and if we are a bit too loose, drinking cold things will cause a temporary tightening that will help us eat less. Guest guest
, Your stats are great!! Congrats! Stress does the same thing to me....back in the day, I'd eat my way thru the fridge when stressed but that has changed. I'm also tight after exercise and 1st thing in the morning. I've decided my band has a mind of her own.... Guest guest
When you are stressed, all of you tenses up. You'll often notice it in hands, fingers, jaw, etc. Your stomach is also a muscle. Glad you figured it out. dan Tuesday, April 28, 2009, 1:19:49 PM, you wrote: > > Am I the only one who gets a tight band when stressed? Guest guest
Thanks Sandy. It's a relief to know it's not just me! I also am curious about why when something gets " stuck " not only do i feel intense pressure in my diaphram but i also feel very weak in the knees like i am going to faint. Does the pressure make blood pressure drop suddenly? Guest guest
It's definitely not just you! :-) Yes, the blood pressure can drop suddenly, for sure. Others, when they get stuck, have a pounding heart beat for several minutes and even a little trouble breathing. The stomach just does NOT like to be messed with in ANY way and lets us know in many uncomfortable ways. People have actually fainted, although it is very uncommon. Best to avoid all this by eating mindfully, and making following the bandster rules very automatic and routine. New habits CAN be put in place, so we don't even have to think about it much anymore - although i have to admit, even 6+ years out, I still eat too fast sometimes and get uncomfortable reminders. At least i recognize a potential problem within a very few bites, so can stop before real vomiting or trouble. Sandy > > > > Hi All! > > > > Am I the only one who gets a tight band when stressed?
