HI , Just my opinion, but based on my own experience that was how I kept feeling before I was taking the prednisilone. I think it is adrenals. Don't forget you are still on a low dose of hydrocortisone and it will take a while to build it up and then get you going on thyroid meds again. It's so hard and so slow, and so easy to wonder if you are doing the right thing - esp if your adrenals are making you feel anxious anyway! I felt so worried about things so many times during this process, and I am so lucky at the moment, that I feel things coming together and feel nearly back to health. Keep trying, follow the instructions for raising, and hopefully with time things eill setlle, we are always here to listen. Leah x
Guest guest
Hi Digest the information I sent in a previous message to you. When a person is getting no beneficial effect of cortisol therapy when they are clearly cortisol deficient, one of the most frequent causes is wrong food intake. You must eat more protein such as meal, poultry and fish. Choose acceptable starches such as fruits and vegetables and avoid sugars, sweets, soft drinks, alcohol, cereals and milk products. If you are getting inconsistent and variable effects of cortisol therapy (including stressful ups and downs of mood and energy (and I am not sure whether you have been taking cortisone long enough to even know this - then possible causes for this is that foods such as sweets, can cause high peaks of blood sugar which temporarily inhibit the body's cortisol production. Short-lived effect (4 to 8 hours) of hydrocortisone that has the natural structure and therefore, easier and more quickly consumed by the body. The solution for this is again, avoid sugar, sweets, soft drinks alcohol, milk products. OR, you may be better to switch over tol a synthetic derivative that has a stable 24- hour effect such as prednisolone or methylprednisolone. However, having written all of this, you have only just started HC and you are still on such a tiny dose I think you are expecting too much too soon. You should find the biggest jigsaw puzzle in the world and sit down and concentrate on completing that and nothing else right now, because you are getting worrying over worrying and causing yourself too much stress - honestly! Luv - Sheila Why oh why am i STILL feeling anxious, light headed and 'not right'? Could it be lack of T4? But doubt it as i felt like it while taking it too, it surely cant be the HC? Maybe I am not on enough HC yet for it to relieve my syptoms, I just dont know, all I know it I am not right yet, its so dis heartening. Anxiety is worse in the morning when I am facing the day ahead, deep breathing as if I cant get a full breath, it had got better. The only thing that ever seemed to sort this was when I took seroxat yrs ago but I am not going there again, anyway it did stop being effective for me as I took it for yrs, I am really at a loss, when I am walking around in town for example its like I am in another world and not intouch with my surroundings, I can feel off balance and wobbly, its so hard to explain but so very much real for me.Sorry folks for the rant!No virus found in this incoming message. Guest guest
After speaking to Dr P yesterday he said to go up to 20mg minimal, before adding T4 back again, my adrenal profile was pretty bad so 7.5mg isnt going to touch me I dont think, I am aiming for 15mg and seeing how I feel, guess I need more than I first expected and its only been a week since I started so this time next week could be a different story, I am getting small 'windows' of feeling normal and this is encouraging!! I am NOT switching to another med just yet thats for sure! lol From: sheilaturner <sheilaturner@...>Subject: Re: Why o why!!thyroid treatment Date: Thursday, 28 August, 2008, 4:54 PM Hi Digest the information I sent in a previous message to you. Guest guest
- before I was on thyroxine and when I wasnt on a high enough dose, and again when I changed to Armour, before I reached a high enough dose - I had awful dizziness, spaced out feelings - at the worst it was like I was in a bubble. This all settled when I got on a high enough dose of T4. I dont have adrenal problems - though I guess that if the adrenal problems stop utilisation of the thyroid meds, then this could give the same result. Gill Just my opinion, but based on my own experience that was how I kept feeling before I was taking the prednisilone. I think it is adrenals. .. Guest guest
You are so right Leah, it is so hard sometimes to keep positive, I have had the feelings I described for so long now, its hard to remember what its like to feel normal all the time! I do have windows when I feel okish and thats positive but I then think its too good to be true! Two years down the line from diagnosis and I am just beginning to get things right re treatment, how bad is that? I think I expected the HC is work straight away, I seemed to think it would! I have felt so worried and anxious that I am doing the right thing, that doesnt help either does it? Guest guest
Hi Gill Its so difficult sometimes to tell which symptoms are from which problem, adrenals or thyroid, and I am lucky enough to have both those problems! lol The opinion here seems to be that I am not giving the HC chance before I start moaning! I just expected it to work pretty instantly, stupid of me to think that really! I have another day on 7.5mg then I can go up to 10mg, so heres hoping. thyroid treatment Date: Thursday, 28 August, 2008, 8:42 PM - before I was on thyroxine and when I wasnt on a high enough dose, and again when I changed to Armour, before I reached a high enough dose - Gill .. Guest guest
Hi It is very difficult to be patient - I know and so difficult to figure out which symptom is which. I dont think people think you are moaning here (we all know what its like to have this damned hypoT thing!!) but I think you do have to be patient and let the HC do its job - its the same with thyroid meds, they take time to get into your body and stabilise and make you feel well. Please try to be patient as that's the only thing to do Im afraid and have learned to my cost in trying to up my armour too fast! I think you have mentioned anxiety before and the good news is that this does settle when you are on the right thyroid dose - so you are going in the right direction and will feel better soon. You do need to relax as much as possible and get enough sleep - Im not being patronising, but sleep and relaxation really are keys to coping with hypothyroidism at least until you get on the right doses - and on that note I think I will be in bed myself very shortly! I never knew about the adrenals until finding this site so i feel the last 2 yrs have been partially wasted when i could have been treating my adrenals sooner but at least i know now!
