Guest guest
I hope others here have dealt with this and can share advice too. this severe constipatin is pretty unusual. Most places add alaxative to the barium to prevent constipation. If you have no medical problems involving the bowel, a Fleet enema should do the trick. OTC at any pharmacy. get 2, and use one per instructions. If that is not effective, use the second one. Do check with your doc to be sure this if ok. then, be sure to follow the bandster nutrition needs, to prevent futher constipation. Be sure to get the minimum 80-100 oz a day of no-cal fluids, the 25- 30 gm a day of fiber, and lots of veggies. Bandsters are prone to constipation anyway, so we have to be careful to eat well. We can also take a daily supplement like Benefiber, but real foods are far better, and promote our weight loss. the supplements do not, so should be used only as a last resort. hope this helps - Sandy > > > I had my annual upper GI in early december and a Bone scan 2 weeks later - and they could still see the barium in me > > by late december the movement had slowed to a crawl (from once a week to none) -- I've taken Rx'd lactulos, which got some out, but in the last week I've took Lactulos, stool softners, miralax, eLax, ton's of fruit, etc - and nothing > > so I went to the doc yeterday and she ordered an xray > > the xray showed " small bowel impaction " so she said to keep taking miralx > I did an internet search and most of it is on " small bowel blockages " -- but an impaction and turn into a blockage quicklyI am concerned - but I'll call my doc on monday if I have not hand any progress this weekend or if I get any abdominal pain. I just hope the barium from the upper GI is not sill in there 4+ weeks later-- I would think if it was my stomach would be very distented.I did get some out this morning- but that could have all be in my large intestine -- it's the small one that's the problem. > > any advice ?? > > donna > _________________________________________________________________ > Windows Live™: Keep your life in sync. > http://windowslive.com/explore? ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_t1_allup_explore_012009 > >
Guest guest
If you start throwing up call your doc or go to the ED, that would be a pretty good indication things aren't moving any more. -- Northrup mm-Elder Northrup Baltic Mission 5/08-5/10 mm-Elder Northrup Managua Nicaragua 10/08-10/10 -------------- Original message -------------- From: Donna Bernier <dbernier01@...> > > I had my annual upper GI in early december and a Bone scan 2 weeks later - and > they could still see the barium in me > > by late december the movement had slowed to a crawl (from once a week to none) > -- I've taken Rx'd lactulos, which got some out, but in the last week I've took > Lactulos, stool softners, miralax, eLax, ton's of fruit, etc - and nothing > > so I went to the doc yeterday and she ordered an xray > > the xray showed " small bowel impaction " so she said to keep taking miralx > I did an internet search and most of it is on " small bowel blockages " -- but an > impaction and turn into a blockage quicklyI am concerned - but I'll call my doc > on monday if I have not hand any progress this weekend or if I get any abdominal > pain.
