Guest guest
Hi all! I have a different improvement I have noticed, but don’t know if it really is iodine related. For a number of years, I have had various intestinal problems. One part was not digesting right, causing loose movements, and since I started taking digestive enzymes, I now have more normal movements. But I have had for years a really urgent need to go, and since I had my rectal muscles torn from an episiodomy, my ability to control that urge has been very limited. Like as soon as a feel the need, I have to immediately head to the bathroom. The muscles pushed very hard, and I could not wait. I started taking Lugol’s about 6 months ago, 50 mg. per day. I felt some energy improvement, had a little detox, on the whole felt it was good. But my children, who are 12-18, complained about the liquid looking/tasting gross, so I recently bought Iodoral instead. I am taking 50 mg. per day, and low and behold, I got really bad skin outbreak detox, and became constipated for the first two weeks, inspite of taking the vit C, mag, salt, etc. that is recommended that I have been taking all along. I have also been taking at least 520 mg of magnesium every night before bed for at least 6 months. In the past few weeks, I have noticed that often I feel the need to use the bathroom, but it is not an uncontrollable pushing. I can actually wait a few minutes or more if needed without problems. This is huge! I have always had to be careful to be around a bathroom, especially in the morning. Any thoughts on if it is the magnesium or the iodine? And why would my body react so differently to the Iodoral instead of the Lugols? Thanks! Donna in IL
Guest guest
The iodine could be a factor. IBS symptoms are often caused by irritating bacteria, and iodine does kill bacteria. I don't know that it kills ALL the bacteria in your gut ... I kinda doubt it ... but there are several substances that just take out one category or another of bacteria and leave the rest along. That " urgent need " is, I think, often triggered by irritants in the stool. The lower colon is very sensitive ... it reabsorbs liquid waste, and if the liquid is irritating (or just plain toxic) the body doesn't want it to just sit there being toxic: it wants to expel it. Bacteria can produce some pretty toxic stuff (esp. if you eat a the food you are intolerant to or can't digest properly: gluten, casein, soy, corn being the usual suspects, but for some people just plain sugar or even meat can be a problem) Magnesium usually acts as a laxataive, so I wouldn't think it would help with " control " much.
