Guest guest
I wonder if having a hiatal hernia can cause band slippage? I went back to my WLS doc today because of persistent acid reflux nightly and he did fluoro on me and I drank some barium and he removed 1.5 cc now my fill is at 1 cc. He said it was a " generous " pouch and not draining properly and that I was on the verge of having a prolapsed pouch, not there yet, so he was hoping removing some of the saline would help this. Anyone else had this trouble and did it help to remove the saline? I sure don't want to have to go back in for surgery again to fix it. If any of you have had a slippage fixed I would love to hear from you and to know if Insurance will pay for it again? I have a million things running through my head right now. He said he thinks since I has acid reflux before the WLS that I have a hiatal hernia and that it was not visible to him day of surgery or prior and that since I have lost 101 pounds in 8 months that it is becoming evident now. Please let me know if any of you can calm my fears about a second surgery possibility. Thanks.
Guest guest
I don't know anything about slippage, but I do know there's a slippedband list on . There is likely a lot of good information there. Guest guest
Many of us had hiatal hernias, since they are common with obesity. most are repaired along with the orignal band surgery. Not sure how you would miss one if it was there...having reflux before banding is a sure sign of a hernia. A dilated pouch is often the same as a small slip, and some fix themselves with an unfill and rest period. Be sure not to eat more than a cup of solid food, so the pouch has a chance to shrink back to a good size. Lots of them do, so keep the faith and eat carefully. If your original sugery paid for the band, it should also cover any neeeded repairs. Good luck with all this - Sandy R > > I wonder if having a hiatal hernia can cause band slippage? Guest guest
Sandy, thanks for responding. I did not know HH was a common thing in the obese. Learn something new everyday. I did not know that just an " unfill " could help the pouch go back to an appropriate size. I will definitely be looking forward to my visit with my WLS doc in December. I guess what I don't understand is that I was not eating no more than normal to have made it " expand " or whatever, but maybe the doc was right about the HH just now appearing. Is surgical treatment necessary to repair the HH? Thanks so much for your encouragement and advice, I am going to stick religiously to this clear liquid/full liquid diet for a few days and ease back into food. > > > > I wonder if having a hiatal hernia can cause band slippage?
