Hi Kari,

Do you already have the prescription for the DOC band? If so, you can go to Cranial Tech for the "free" consultation and they will submit a claim to your insurance requesting preauthorization. This is the step you need to take before scheduling a casting appointment. Once you get an official denial, you can proceed to get Gracie banded and then appeal in the meantime. That's what we did. My twins finished treatment last May (while still young), but I am still appealing the denial. The money is water over the dam, and my babies got treatment during an optimal time. Good luck.

Hello, my name is Kari, and my 5mo old dd, Gracie was diagnosed with plagio a couple of weeks ago. The Maxillofacial surgeon she saw said she needs a helmet, and I already contacted my insurance (Tricare) and they flat out told me its not covered, but that i can appeal. I am waiting for some paperwork from the doctor,(the Rx and letter of medical necessity) but he hasnt sent it yet. Im totally confused. Was I supposed to take her to the Cranial Technologies place before we to to the insurance? I just dont know what i am supposed to be doing right now, and i am getting nervous because at 5 months she isnt getting any younger, lol! Anyways, thanks for letting me vent on my first visit, lol, if anyone knows what i should be doing right now to get this all taken care of feel free to share! thanks!Kari~~~mom to Heidi(6), Faith(3), (18mos), and Gracie(5mos) :)For more plagio info

Hi Kari,

You need to get an official denial (or approval) from Tricare before going to

see the orthotist. That way they cannot flat out deny you because you did not

follow procedure. We have a member here that got Tricare to pay and I'm sure you

will hear from her. If you call the ortho's office they can probably help you

with what steps need to be taken next. It sounds like you are going to be

getting a DOCband and the people there are very helpful so just give them a

call.

Gracie is starting at a great age - you should see some really good correction.

Good luck with Tricare and keep us posted!

Hi Kari & welcome to our group!

Glad you have found us. I see you've already rec'd several great

replies to your post, and Christi our famous Tricare beater replied

too! I hope some of their advice will help you.

I just wanted to welcome you & Gracie (love the name!). At 5 mos or

ever 6 or 7 she's still plenty young enough to get great correction

with a band. Of course the younger the better, but don't worry too

much.

Keep us posted on your insurance & band.

Hi Kari,

Welcome to the group :) My, you must be one busy mom with four little ones! Probably a whole lot of fun going on at your house! I asked CT about insurance coverage before we got started, and you did the same by asking your provider, now you that unfortunately you will probably have to appeal as it will not be covered. There are many members that can give you great advice about the appeals process, so I just wanted to say welcome and good luck!

  • 3 years later...

40 yr old female, nothing removed from body (yet). Lupus,

fibromyagia, hypothyroid, high Blood pressure 5'2 " 231 lbs.

I had my first gallbladder attack this past Monday evening. I have

been on a clear liquid diet since then and have had my gallbladder

ultra sound today. The tech would only tell me " You have one huge

gallstone and that is all I will say " She told me this because I

told her she would have to give my Dr. some kind of info today

because I can't stay on this diet through the weekend.

My question is.. if my gallstone or stones are large... what is safe

and unsafe to do. Is a large stone " passable " or can it be broke

down?

My Dr's. office called and told me to start on the B.R.A.T diet, no

fat at all and to make an appt with a surgeon right away. Also told

me no dairy at all, can folks have non or low fat dairy with this

condition? I am not a huge dairy fan, but I love my low fat yogurt!

Thank you!

Stacie
