Guest guest
Allie, Are you on any thyroid medications? It sounds like you have hypoT symptoms. I am on 3 grains of Armour and tried Iodoral for two weeks (before that I was on Lugols for two weeks) and began to have hypoT symptoms... you may want to back off and go a little more gradually. I too felt good for about 10 days on Iodoral and then began to have hypo symptoms. Once I backed off (went back to 4 drops of lugols per day) the hypo symptoms disappeared. But I also had diarrhea everyday and I think that took a toll on me too. I'm not going to give up, but, just need to go slower. Guest guest
Suzanne, did you increase your Armour to the level you are currently at before trying Lugols/iodoral? I'm currently only at 30mg of Armour and 15mcg of Cytomel and was tested low in iodine through the load test. I want to restart the iodoral again but was curious if I needed to get to a level of Armour for my body before I start adding iodine. Any suggestions? Thank you Kathleen > > > > > > > > Hi Folks: > > > > I Had a loading test done and the results were very low,so my phone > > consult with Dr.Flechas is next week,Aug.17, at 5:30pm This was > made a > > few weeks ago. > > > > Total Urine Volume 850.......I & I Loading..39...I & I Saturation 78.... > > > > Anyway,I thought that I would go ahead and start the Iodoral, which > I did > > 2 weeks ago,I had no body changes, like constipation or anything > else,I > > felt very normal on 2 tabs in the morning and 2 tabs in the > evening. > > > > Now, My one big problem was that my hair started falling out in > bunches > > about 3 days after starting the Iodoral, and I'm having terrible heat > > flashes. > > > > I filled out an online questionaire on Adrenals and thought this > might > > be my problem,so I called about an Adrenal supplement and was asked > > which one I needed, the one was for cortisol and don't know what the > > other was for,I was told to call back tomorrow and ask the Dr. > > > > I'm totally confused by this and would appreciate any help. Guest guest
why not increase the Armour, vit C, salt, and work through the symptoms, b/c that has to be done at some point anyway? Guest guest
Kathleen, I have been on 3 grains of Armour since June 1. I tried uping my armour dose to 3.5 - 4 grains during my iodine usage but I didn't feel any better and the iodine induced hypo symptoms did not go away (maybe I didn't stick to the higher armour dose long enough?). I did a blood test yesterday for TSH, FT4 and FT3 and next week I will get the results from my doctor. I'll be curious if the iodine made a difference in blood test. Funny, since stopping the iodine usage a couple of days ago (btw, I have a tiny canker sore on the tip of my tongue that is very painful and doesn't seem to go away), I feel like I'm going through withdrawls! I'm very tired, muscles feel very weak and my short term memory is shot.... thank goodness my hair isn't falling out! Guest guest
Thank you,I seem to hold on to the thought that I can eventually get off all thyroid meds (still have thyroid) and support my body nutritionally. Which is how I see the Iodine as a nutritional support. I had to increase my cytomel because my labs came back for FT3 at 278. My FT4 has always stayed at .8 or .9. After being on Armour for only 4 weeks I'm starting to feel sluggish. Can't really put my finger on the 'why' because of the intense heat wave. I suspect I will be increasing my armour...arrg! I'm taking 53mcg of iodine in my zinc tab and 225 mcg in my potassium iodide tab with my pulse always between 90 to 100, has never been below 80 in years. I continue to read all the great responses here and check out the websites. Always welcome any insights. Thank you Kathleen > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi Folks: > > > > > > > > I Had a loading test done and the results were very low,so my > > phone > > > > consult with Dr.Flechas is next week,Aug.17, at 5:30pm This was > > > made a > > > > few weeks ago. > > > > > > > > Total Urine Volume 850.......I & I Loading..39...I & I Saturation > > 78.... > > > > > > > > Anyway,I thought that I would go ahead and start the > > Iodoral, which > > > I did > > > > 2 weeks ago,I had no body changes, like constipation or anything > > > else,I > > > > felt very normal on 2 tabs in the morning and 2 tabs in the > > > evening. > > > > > > > > Now, My one big problem was that my hair started falling out in > > > bunches > > > > about 3 days after starting the Iodoral, and I'm having terrible > > heat > > > > flashes. > > > > > > > > I filled out an online questionaire on Adrenals and thought > this > > > might > > > > be my problem,so I called about an Adrenal supplement and was > > asked > > > > which one I needed, the one was for cortisol and don't know what > > the > > > > other was for,I was told to call back tomorrow and ask the Dr. > > > > > > > > I'm totally confused by this and would appreciate any help. > Thanks > > > > > > > > > > > > Pat, PA. Guest guest
Gracia, I did all that... I followed the protocal. But I went down hill fast and had to stop in order to function at a busy job. I'm going to try iodine regiment again but build up gradually. Guest guest
Hi Pat, > What is hypoT HypoThyroidism. Be careful using iodoral if you are boarderline hypo. According to Brownstien adding iodoral (without thyroid meds) may make you worse (at first). And fyi, once your hair starts falling out, it's hard to get it to stop! At least that was my experience. It is good that you are consulting a doctor first. Suzanne ...Allie, > Are you on any thyroid medications? Guest guest
When my hair sheds, I adjust my medication up a bit and it stops right away. It takes 3 months for the full thickness to come back to my hair. Whatever I am doing at the time is taxing my thyroid I've found, whether it is excessive exercise or stress it is letting me know I need more until that stress is removed. That is my experience. I have two bottles of Levoxyl. One is 75mcg and one is 100mcg. I take one 75mcg and half of the 100mcg for a total of 125mcg. With this technique of breaking the 75 & 100 pills in half I create dosages of 112.5mcg, 125mcg, 137.5mcg and 150mcg, etc. Works great for me. You just have to catch the hair shedding quickly. --- Suzanne <gddsssuze@...> wrote: > Hi Pat, > > > What is hypoT > > HypoThyroidism. > > Be careful using iodoral if you are boarderline hypo. Guest guest
actually I have read that thyroid meds without iodine when deficient can make one more deficient in iodine. Guest guest
it was a quote from Brownstein's book which I think was posted on here. Not sure I saved it though. Guest guest
Pg 83 in brownsteins iodine book states, " " When hypothyroidism is present , the body is in a hypometabolic state. In other words, all bodily functions slow down and the consequences of this state include cold extremities, dry skin, fatigue, brain fog and weight gain......when thyroid hormone is given, it results in an increased metabolic state which reverses all of the above conditions. Thyroid hormone utilites ATP to increase the body's metabolic rate. This increased metabolism helps the body produce more heat, lose weight, overcome fatigue, etc. If thyroid hormone is given to an iodine-deficient patient, the increased metabolic rate due to thyroid hormone will actually increase the body's need for iodine as well as decreasing the ability of the cells of the body to concentrate iodine.
