It's only .010 mg of Iodine. I take 100 mgs. Ditch the iodized salt. If it is from the grocery store and cheap you are doing your body harm. It is cleaned and processed with chloride which is a thyroid hormone inhibitor (halide). Get some Celtic Salt (redmonds is good but many here feel better with Celtic brand) and supplement with a good Iodine supplement. > > This alone, appeared to help me to feel a bit better. I suspect there is someone passing this product off as Lugol's when it is not. How much did you pay for this? Because you feel hyper I suspect your adrenals are struggling. Get at least 2,000 mgs Vit C per day plus do the salt load described on www.breastcancerchoices.org . You can calm that hyper feeling in many cases with Magnesium (200- 400 mgs) plus Vit C. If that does not help Lithium and L-Carnatine will also help. Adding the CoFactors (B2/B3) described on my website www.naturalthyroidchoices.com may help as well. They help the utilization of the iodine in the cells. Are you taking Selenium? You should be taking at least 200 mcg of that as well. This is controversial but I have seen people react when taking too LITTLE iodine. It's enough to fuel the fire but not get the fire burning well. I have a friend who could not take 6.25 mgs of Iodoral but now takes 200 mgs w/o an issue. Have you been tested for an autoimmune thyroid disease? (TPO antibodies and Thyroglobulin Antibodies) You should probably do that if you have not. Get a full thyroid panel too of TSH, Free T3 and Free T4. You need to know your status. Guest guest
Possibly this is because you are still taking iodine in salt etc..Try for two days stopping the iodine totally --not even in salt or go without salt. Experiment and determine your own optimal level of iodine. We all are different. Even your iodine requirement may change across days. Guest guest
Hi Ratan, Thank you for your response. This sounds like the logical solution and then starting again once symptoms calm down. I think what happened was, my body was obviously very deficient in iodine and the sudden increased intake, almost sent things into overdrive. Even if my body required more overall, at that point even that increase was almost too sudden. Even stopping the lugol's but continuing with the iodised salt perhaps allowed that reaction to be maintained as you have indicated. So yeah I feel like I have to let it subside and start again but in a healthier manner too. Obviously table-salt is far from ideal. I guess though that the iodine it does have, lifted me when I first starting using it before the lugol's which does at least indicate I need iodine, but the long term problems possibly associated with table salt does not appeal... thanks again. > > Possibly this is because you are still taking iodine > in salt etc..Try for two days stopping the iodine > totally --not even in salt or go without salt. > Experiment and determine your own optimal level of > iodine. Guest guest
HI , Thanks for your detailed response. Yes the lugol's I was given is obviously a highly diluted " version " . I got it from here: http://www.clinicians.co.nz/afawcs0132762/CATID=8/SUBID=89/ID=1367/SID =700160255/productdetails.html Doctor had me on 4 drops, which was far too much for me to handle. Certainly at that stage. Obviously iodine deficient for sometime, I went into overdrive. I don't believe that's the way to deal with this problem, I think it creates problems, unless a person goes slow and ramps up to tolerance (just my opinion). I get vitamin C in the multi powder I am taking. Almost 2000 mg spread out during the day. I am also taking magnesium, and the multi contains plenty of nutrients all in one that is from the clincians lab here in new zealand. Excellent stuff, so my adrenals would alreay be getting at least some support. However, I still cannot handle much iodine right now. It is interesting what you said about too little iodine, as opposed to not taking enough and then having issues with that. Perhaps that is what happened to me, I don't know. Very weird though! Fueling the fire, but not really getting the fire burning. Could be! Yes I have recently had a full thyroid panel done. I cannot find my results right now, but I was low thyroid. My doctor who is also alternative health therapist did the right type of tests to make sure it was accurate. However, I believe personally that adrenals are involved and this might be why stimulating thyroid is causing problems too. She said my cortisone was at high levels, as was my DHEA (though I have the growth hormone of someone in their middle age, so that was not good). However, I've also heard cortisone levels can fluctute during the day are testing is not always an accurate depiction of what is really going on. I feel personally that it's a case of monitoring and balancing at the moment. Giving things are rest and starting again! I would also like to ask what you think of this salt here: http://malcolmharker.co.nz/shop/Salt++Powders/Natural+Sun+dried+Seasal t++kelp/1022-200g+-+Celtic++Sea+Salt.html Is kelp an ok thing to mix into this programme? as it contains iodine naturally, I'd be interested in this mixture of celtic salt and kelp.. Thank you again for the informative and helpful response. I would > > My comments below. > > > > Doctor gives me lugol's... > > > >> 100 mcg is very small. It's only .010 mg of Iodine. I have no idea exactly what this is because it is not Lugol's. Who's to say that it is even pure. It may have contamanents in it. I don't know. However, I've also heard cortisone > levels can fluctute during the day are testing is not always an > accurate depiction of what is really going on. That is true. Cortisol does fluctuate which is why the multiple through the day cortisol (saliva) tests work well. If you have a stressful day it will elevate it. But, higher cortisol signals early adrenal fatigue. Chronic stress will elevate it until they get exhausted and quit then the cortisol drops and you have another issue. Stress can be from low thyroid levels because the adrenals then have to pick up the slack. Remember adrenals are sprinters not marathon runners.> > I feel personally that it's a case of monitoring and balancing at the > moment. Guest guest
Bex, It is the " iodized salt and 100 mcg of iodide in the supplement and that is it. " that is causing your nervous feelings. Every time I eat food that has regular iodized table salt I feel like I am speeding up and feel very nervous. As long as I stay off the iodized table salt and take no other salts EXCEPT for Celtic Sea Salt, I feel fine. You should then start on Lugol's again, but, only 1 drop per day for awhile, then 2 drops, etc. Sunny > > Hi there, I'm new to the group. > > My doctor recently did some tests me and found that my thyroid > function was underactive and that the lugol's iodine test showed my > body was holding onto the iodine, more than excreting it. Guest guest
Hi Sunny, Maybe you're right. Certainly, even though I stopped lugol's the nervous hyped up feeling and palpitations aren't stopping. So you probably have a strong point! This is unfortunate, as the supplement is excellent and from a reputable lab in new zealand. Has just about everything in it and I am sure it and the other supplements have helped. I have also just bought another one recently and I am on a limited income, so I feel this is a waste because I've already started using it. It's funny because iodised salt never used to do this to me, but I think perhaps being off it for so long and onto the natural salt, perhaps going back on it, my body is strongly reacting and trying to tell me something...? Could it be the iodine as such or the caking agents that are setting my nervous system off? or perhaps both? Since people seem to feel it's a poison... I think I'll lessen this a bit at a time, because I went into it too fast and I want to back off bit by bit. I'm saddened over the supplement, because the other one they have is the same, 100 mcg of iodide....anyway, Im going to see what giving up the salt does first, as I'm about to do that anyway because of what said. So today I'm stopping. What about kelp? I realise I could start on lugol's yes, but I'm wondering also about kelp? I put up a link to a salt we have here that has a mix of celtic sea salt and kelp...would that too be ok? thanks again, this has been very helpful to me and may explain what is going on here. > Bex, > > It is the " iodized salt and 100 mcg of iodide in the supplement and > that is it. Guest guest
Hi , Sorry I missed this post! Just seen it now. I'm a bit disappointed in regards to the kelp I must admit. But thanks for letting me know. My Father takes it and I must admit is doing well. He's 76. He uses redmonds real salt and takes kelp supplements and is doing just fine. So perhaps the stuff we have is a bit more pure I don't know. Maybe he's less affected by things than I am, as he is not ill anyway. I'll check out the stuff you posted (Iodoral). Yeah I " m not sure about the " lugol's " iodine we have here from that lab. But it says it's just a diluted form of the original. So it must have both forms of iodine, but just much more diluted version, so you don't get the higher potency of it. Perhaps it's still a good one to take, considering I can ramp up. Here is what it says: " Clinicians Lugol's Solution (4% dilution) is a dilution of the original Lugol's Iodine designed to support thyroid function " . And yes, I think I need a bit more vitamin C also. I have licorice herbal tea...although it has no sugar, it seemed to set off my yeast problems more. Anything sweet, even natural causes issues with me. I may simply need to buy an adrenal support or glandular formula. I also take about 200 mcg selenium a day. I find a lot of this a bit confusing and alot of trial and error is involved. Thanks again :-) Bex. > > My comments below > > > > > http://www.clinicians.co.nz/afawcs0132762/CATID=8/SUBID=89/ID=1367/SID >=700160255/productdetails.html > > This is not Lugol's formula. Guest guest
It will be trial and error and testing. There are no definitive answers or a one size fits all. We are all unique. As for your father and kelp. Some people have better detoxification pathways. Others do not and react. I am an unfortunate one who struggles to detox. My ND found that there is an issue in the genome of those of us who got cancer - also he things autoimmune as well. Lucky us. I am still not convinced that iodine product is Lugol's. We have issues with people saying something is Lugol's but when my Dr friend has them analyzed they are not at all. Re: Doctor gives me lugol's... > Hi , > > Sorry I missed this post!
