I happened to get in a conversation with a naturopath today about

Iodomere, one of the iodine supplements that Standard Process sells.

It's iodine bounded to protien in the form of sea conch. Supposedly it

makes the iodine much more bioavailable and less likely to cause

damage to the stomach (which I didn't know it did nor have seen any

research for that)

Anyhow he said (and he was essentially quoting St. Process materials)

that iodine will bond too quickly to the protiens in the stomach

lining. SO the trick is to pre-bond it to protien. St. Process using a

" patented " technique to do this. (which I tried to find out on the US

patent site but no luck). All the chemical iodines like iodoral and

lugols can cause damage unless they are bonded to protiens.

So I said...well why not just take iodine like lugols or iodoral with

a protein. He said yes that make sense and would probably work. Then

he went back to talking about the special patented process of SP. He

sells iodoral though and did add that he might start having his

patients use a protein supplement with it.

The protien part does makes some sense to me in that in nature we most

likely would be recieving our iodine moleculary bond to something. We

would be getting it from either seaweeds or from plants in iodine rich

soils. Since the iodine has been " farmed " out of most soils it's a

really hard mineral to find in high amounts in most land plants.

Might be something to consider if you're not taking lugols or iodoral

with a meal and just using water.

I tried the Standard Process Iodomere and Prolamine Iodine and they did nothing for me, nor for my clients. Standard Process, with which I have an account, also makes the Thytrophin that I take, protomorphogens which are like little building blocks for specific organs. Thytrophin also did nothing until I found Iodoral. I suppose you can build up the organ as much as you want, but if you don't give it the raw materials it won't make thyroxine, period.

On the other hand a Chiropractor colleague swears by the SP product and says that Iodoral is "too strong" for him. Everyone's different.

If you take some protein with Lugol's it may or may not bond to the protein in the food in preference to the stomach lining. Iodoral is coated with a pharmaceutical glaze so that it mostly supposedly gets through the stomach without breaking down and causing irritation. I have Lugol's but I've never tried it internally because I HATE stomach upsets. I got it to paint on me after my shower if I have time. After 18 mo on Iodoral it still disappears pretty fast.

At some point I AM going to do the urine iodine test, and I'll report here and on my site.

------> Hi ,

Iodomere and prolamine don't have that much iodine in them. I think

it's 1.5 mg in iodomere. You would really have to take a ton to equal

just 2 tabs of iodoral. I can't recall the amount in prolamine.

What do you see happening with the protomorphogens? The ND I was

talking with raves about them. I use glandular supplements and love

them. He thought the protomorphogens were better but I can't see how

they could contain all the vitamins and other nutrients that organs

contain.

I'm curious though....

I have had some

horrible reactions from iodoral and my guess is because it made it way

undigested into my lower intestines. I wound up bloated and incrediably

constipated for a few weeks. Got off the iodoral and eventually it all

went away.

Lugol's have never done that to me.

I'm now back on 1 tab of iodoral and using 2 drops of lugols in beet

kvass. So far that seems to be perfect. My bowels are finally working

more regularly than in years and I rarely have stomach problems.

I'll be curious what your loading test shows since the iodine is still disappearing fast.

I'm going to retest the end of summer and see where I've gotten. I was at 70% loaded in Dec.

I had been mostly painting at that point so it had to be getting in.

One other person I know also only painted and had relatively higher

loading test results (73%).
