Guest guest
a - welcome to the fold of Thyroidians who are regaining their health have been forced into taking it fully into their own hands. It is wicked in this day and age that we are left in such a situation, but there you go. It seems that no matter what we say to our doctors, they will not listen. Your doctor sounds positively dangerous, and I would write to the Practice Manager, pointing out that even though you have told your doctor you get intense heart palpitations when trying to up your dose, yet he still insists. Tell the Practice Manager you want a referral to an endocrinologist who specialises in thyroid disease and who KNOWS that taking too much thyroid hormone replacement can cause you serious problems. I would certainly NOT let this GP get away with this because if he forces somebody less assertive than you to increase their dose in such a way, there could be dire consequences. Your results are showing your body is not using the thyroxine as it should and in likelihood, you are not converting to the active T3. See how you get on when your Armour arrives. Look in our FILES under "How to Use Armour Thyroid" and make sure you fully understand exactly what you are doing. If you have any questions, just ask us. Luv - Sheila.....and GOOD LUCK. I went to see my GP today to see if I could get a free t3 and T4. He said they dont bother with T3 as they use it only for cancer patients and would only precibe it to me with cancer. He said the lab would throw it in the bin. He wouldnt look me in the eye.I tryed to explain about armour but he just ingnored me. He told me I need more T4 and I should up my thyroxine to 150, I told him that I had tryed that and got very intense heart papitations and anxiety. He told me to just deal with it and increase my dose. I tryed to tell him that the symtoms are so unpleasant that Im not sure if I could do that. He told me I would be fine and to do it.I had a thyriod test in december 07here is my resultsserum tsh 5.85 (0.3 -5.5)serum free t4 14.1 pmol/L (12.0- 22.0)I feel rubbish and I have never felt right on thyroxine, no matter what my results. My body temp is low too between 35.5 -35.8I have ordered some Armour today, I am really fed up with docs, not having a clue. I am from now on going to take the power back in my life. What does anyone think of my test results. They dont really mean much to me.Thanks paula No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG Free Edition. Guest guest
Hi a, Re your December 2007 results: serum tsh 5.85 (0.3 -5.5) serum free t4 14.1 pmol/L (12.0- 22.0) Those results look like those of a hypothyroid person who isn't medicated or who isn't responding to medication. A few questions. When were you diagnosed? How long have you been taking thyroxine and at what dosage? Do you know what your TSH and t4 results were before you were prescribed medication? Definitely do as Sheila suggests. You need to be seen by someone properly qualified and that GP of yours is not the one! Good luck Tracey

The doc also say that I should up to 150 and maybe work up to 180. I dont think thats gunna work. I have been on thyroxine for 6 yrs, but they didnt diagnose me for years. Docs kept telling me I had depression.I collasped in the end and was sleeping 18 hours a day. The docs since my treatment have now told me I have CFS. I keep telling them its my thyriod. Even the endocrinlogist has not been helpful.I give up on all of them. I will complain about that doc too, when I have more energy to give. I havent got much fight left at the moment. But god help them when IM back to normal
Guest guest
That GP is soooooo nasty and I would defo report it to the practice manager as suggested, how dare he suggest you do something like that, how the h--- would he like it? Yes he is indeed dangerous! WTG on ordering the Armour which is what I will be doing next week if I don't get it prescribed (unlikely). I am even having an adrenal spit test for my birthday which is the 21st as I otherwise cannot afford it But I need to know if I have to order any hydrocortisone from abroad too because I don't want the Armour making me feel bad simply because of low adrenal output. It will be the best birthday pressie I ever had if it gives me the knowledge to make me well again. I sincerely wish you all the best in your recovery from the thyroid madness . luv Dawn
Guest guest
a, clearly that treatment is NOT working and this needs to be investigated properly. Where in the country do you live? Then if anyone can recommend a GP/endo in that location or, just as useful, warn about a bad one could they please reply to a directly and also let Sheila know. We are not supposed to name docs on the board but there are discrete ways of sharing the knowledge! For the record I am in the process of getting the full details of my sister's hypothyroid lady GP - she sounds invaluable! Guest guest
Hi a, If you can get a referal to the BRI in Bristol, they are a teaching hospital, where Prof Stafford Lightman is the Prof of Medicine. He's an endocrinologist with interests in pituitary disease (set up PitPat the Pituitary Organisation for Patients) with many relevant publications to his name....as also Colin Dayan on thyroid treatments. They have a working regime with steroids to cope with some of the thyroid problems that don't immediately (3-6months) resolve on adding Thyroxine (T4) on its own. I'm not sure if they would consider using Armour (if appropriate ) but there does seem to be a willingness to listen to alterntive strategies for patients having severe problems....at least one poster elsewhere had dental problems that were disrupting her endocrine system responses (an inflammatory/allergic response to a trace metal that exacerbates Helicobacter Pylori infection ~ can cause ulcers) A referal might give you a better chance of discovering the true extent of the problem that you have... best wishes Bob > > > > a, clearly that treatment is NOT working and this needs to be > > investigated properly. > > > > Where in the country do you live? > > > > >Hi tracey > > I live in west wiltshire. Guest guest
Hi there a, low body temps may possibly be linked to your adrenals.proper adrenal function is vital so that any thyroid medication can work.you will need the 24 hour stress test. better to get this done privately as it is more accurate than the one your doctor uses. look in our files from the home page for where to get this done.angel. Guest guest
Hi a, Tests can be misleading, but your TSH is too high at 5.84 - over 90% of healthy folk havea TSH of around 1.0, and though your T4 is within range it is very near the bottom. What are you taking at the moment ? Maybe you could try the increase slowly by doing 125 one day and 150 the next for a few weeks before going all the way to 150. T4 has a long half life so you should'nt feel like a seesaw doing this. The other reason you are reacting badly to 150 may be adrenal- see questionnaire. He told me I need more T4 and I should up my thyroxine to 150, I told him that I had tried that and got very intense heart papitations and anxiety. He told me to just deal with it and increase my dose. I tryed to tell him that the symtoms are so unpleasant that Im not sure if I could do that. He told me I would be fine and to do it. Guest guest
> > Hi there a, low body temps may possibly be linked to your adrenals. > angel. I am on the case Angel. I ordered adrenal test and free t3 from the lab yesterday I wouldnt be surprised if they come back low. I have lovely dark circles under my eyes at the moment, Im not sure if thats adrenal related. I dont have much stamina for stress either. Before i got diagnosed, I went really really hyper. I couldnt stop, my nickname was duracell.I was extremme in every way. I did end up pushing my self to the limit, it was like I went into pyschosis looking back on it. I managed to distroy my whole life with this disorder and I will be glad to have my self back. I think thats why I collasped in the end, because there was no energy left in my adreanals to get back up. We shall see, I will post my results up as soon as i have them. paula > > > --------------------------------- > Sent from & #45; a smarter inbox. >
