Guest guest
Dr. Brownstein did a saliva, urine (not loading) and blood test on me. Iodine Blood Test Does anyone know about the Iodine Blood/serum test? Is it useful at all? I just don't have time to do a 24 hour urine test. Thanks. Guest guest
Thanks ...my doc suggested the blood test and then go from there. If I want the urine (not loading) test he would run it. Guest guest
you can order your own urine test from http://www.helpmythyroid.com I wouldn't do the blood test b/c it's based on 150mcg being sufficient. Your results will be "normal". Gracia Thanks ...my doc suggested the blood test and then go from there. If I want the urine (not loading) test he would run it. Guest guest
All three of my levels showed NO Iodine. My loading test was done in Mid August after 4 1/2 mos of supplementation at 50 mgs and then it showed 66% saturation. Guest guest
Yes I did. I did low iodine diets to prepare for RAI and the Endo told me that I Had the lowest level he had ever seen. Guest guest
I know having RAI can rally be hard on a person. I pray you recuperate fully. Then I guess it takes a while to get levels back up again, being you took 50mg iodine for 4 1/2 months and levels went up to 66%. I am just doing Lugals via skin for now as oral iodine drives me up the wall (even eating shell fish, or taking vitamins w/iodine). Lugols via skin doesn't seem to bother me. My doctors seem to think that after being on lyme treatment for a while and clearing pathways, I might be more able to tolerate iodine orally even though I also have hashimotos. V > > Yes I did. Guest guest
At least it did give you some information about where you were at with iodine. I just don't know if it really tells what is going on at the cellular level where it is needed though. I think I will have the test done anyway. Guest guest
mary, i asked about this one time here...doing it transdermally when orally has a adverse reaction....and am glad to read your account. I've also come across this phenonomenom on another forum where transdermally could be tolerated when oral could not. i can't quite figure out why this is...other than we know a Hashi's thyroid gland is different (doesn't metabolize iodine properly?) and for some reason (fibrous tissue?) can be aggravated by iodine ingestion. does transdermally not travel to the thyroid gland perhaps? anyway, do you mind sharing where you paint and how much...and what benefits you think you've seen? I'm in a frustrating position over iodine with having Hashi's...with not being able to tolerate iodine...and having other Hashi's folks write me and telling me the same story...and yet no answers on how we can gain the therapeutic benefits to the body from iodine when our Hashi's gland reacts to it...so I'd love more info on your transdermal experience. cindi --- I am just doing Lugals via skin for now as oral iodine drives > me up the wall (even eating shell fish, or taking vitamins w/iodine). > Lugols via skin doesn't seem to bother me. V I don't know what driving you up the wall means. It may be with Hashimoto's you'll never be able to tolerate it. It could also mean you need to be sure to take magnesium, Vitamin C, and selenium with your iodine. It may be it's having a detox reaction and these will help you. I'd be careful of Vitamin C in relation to tick bites, as they seem to like Vitamin C. Guest guest
I cannot eat shellfish. I have an allergy. My doctors all told me it was iodine so they used synthetic things in me for testing. When I had RAI they told me not to worry that it was different. How I don't know. I still cannot eat shellfish and I am told now that it is the proteins in the fish that I am allergic to. I am taking 75 mgs of Iodoral now and it is going just fine. I had some detoxing reactions - breakouts on the lymph lines and cloudy urine but I have been fine since the first couple of weeks. I know having RAI can rally be hard on a person. I pray you recuperate fully. Then I guess it takes a while to get levels back up again, being you took 50mg iodine for 4 1/2 months and levels went up to 66%. Guest guest
vitamins are too low dose allergy to shellfish is to the proteins, not iodine. Severe problems with shellfish can be either allergy to the proteins, or sensitivity to the high iodine in shellfish, or both. I too have the problem with high iodine in shellfish, and to vitamins with more than about 70 mcg iodine. Carol
