Congratulations Caroline - just shows how a little research can pay off. It depends when you are seeing Dr Burrows, I would stop it for a few days before you have your next blood test, so, if that will be when you see Dr Burrows, then most definitely do not take any. That way, he shoulds get a true reading of what is actually happening to you.

Carry on with your "happy dance" and may you be dancing forever.

;o)

I have just got back from the GP's and he agreed to refer me to Dr Burrows at Huddersfield. I was ready with a letter and lots of information and didn't even need to use any of it.Now doing the happy dance like mad. woo hoo.One question I do not convert t4 to t3 according to my research and Dr P. Should I stop the t3 until I see Dr Burrows or keep on taking it?Thanks everyone.Caroline

Thank you Shelia Without this site I would not have had the knowledge or confidence to even try and get a referral. Does anyone know what Dr Burrows opinion of Dr Peatfield is, i.e. would it help if I told Dr Burrows Dr P had diagnoised me as not being able to convert t4 to t3 and I had been treated successfully on T3? My appointment will probably be after Christmas, but a friend suggested I leave it a couple of days and ring huddersfield and tell them that I can come in any time if they have a cancellation so may do that. Hi Caroline

First, you need to be 100% sure you will definitely be seeing Dr Burrows and not any other endocrinologist or doctor. You must tell the appointments clerk that you will not see anybody else, as the other doctors there have a completely different opinion to him.

I have no idea of his opinion of Dr Peatfield, but if you have Dr P's book, it might be an idea to take it in with you so you can show it to him and he might get more of an idea of what he does. I think most practitioners know of Dr P but what they actually think of him (because he works outside the NHS and does not agree with the NHS diagnosing and treating protocol), is quite another thing.

I think I would leave it up to Dr Burrows to find that you are hypothyroid and not tread on his toes by saying you had somebody else diagnose you. He might wonder why you don't stay with the doctor who gave you such a diagnosis. We have to be careful of the 'politics' surrounding NHS and hypothyroidism. Burrows is a good man and if you are hypothyroid, he will realise this.
