How is Peat determining thyroid suppression? By the TSH? My DD's TSH

went up over 50 while she was on Iodoral and she had no hypo symptoms at

all. And her goiter disappeared in a month.

CC while supplementing and feeling sleepy you should have been taking your

temperatures. HypoT will manifest itself in low body temps. You may have

been experiencing either adrenal fatigue or detox. You sometimes have to

get worse to get better. I know that is what happened to me. I have no

thyroid though to that makes my dynamics a bit different.

i'd say " not always " ....many of us AITD/hypos have had periods where

we " ran a slight fever " ....dysfunctional immune system and all that...

i do believe there comes a point where the thyroid hormone deficiency

is so bad, that overall metabolism is so profoundly affected...that

temperature drops and stays dropped....

so for sure a lowered body temperature is a big clue as to hypo....but

a normal temperature does not rule out a thyroid hormone deficiency in

the body.

Ray Peat or whoever, my simple guess is that if we overdo iodine then we are going to sure have thyroditis (hyper side) and high blood pressure. But we do need iodine, perhaps in its two forms and perhaps preferably as nascent iodine of my fellow national Shankar Bisey. I take iodine both as potassium iodine and Lugol's because my bottle of nascent (magnascent aromic iodine) has finished. But I keep off of iodine when I take fish (one day in five days) and one more day in five days. This balancing act of course is based on hunch.

Thanks for pointing that out Linn. I too am looking for evidence presented by Peat that this is an issue - not the articles that were posted here. We were discussing Peat and I have yet to see his analysis.Steph Re: Studies showing Iodine is harmful....> I've read numerous studies on both sides of the fence regarding iodine, in > particular> regarding Hashi's, as my daughter had a raging case of it. interesting b/c I have always loved Peat--don't know how he could be so wrong here.

how much/what kind of iodine were you taking?

Hey Sandi...I got the articles from another source...I am happy to email them to you if you contact me offline....If you can distinguish them in some way from Abraham and Brownstien's (A & B)work...I would appreciate it. Peat is adamantly opposed to the use of iodine...and that troubles me because I respect his work. He says its best to completely ignore everything that A & B are reporting. I recently read B's book and Dr. Derry's book on iodine and found them to be persuasive...I started taking iodorol but backed off when I got so sleepy I couldn't make it through the day. Would appreciate any input you have on the sleepiness or other relevant info.---
