Guest guest
You should know that among the many dangers of statins drugs is an increased risk of heart disease. This is because patients taking statins become depleted in Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), which leads to fatigue, muscle weakness, soreness and, ironically, heart failure. I know several people with heart conditions who've been prescribed statins by their GPs, and who have major reservations either due to serious side-effects or just a preference for more natural solutions. But I wasn't aware of this danger. Do you know where his evidence comes from? The evidence about the benefits of statins is certainly not conclusive, but one interesting study was published earlier this year. A University of Glasgow team found that taking statins did reduce the risk of heart disease, but that it may not be necessary to take them forever. Taking statins for a few years continued to reduce the risk of heart disease at least 10 years after volunteers in the study stopped taking them. The leading cardiologist on the study said: " These results are very reassuring for patients who might be concerned about safety when taking a drug for a very long period of time. " Here's the story from the BBC Health website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/glasgow_and_west/7039256.stm
Guest guest
For every paper written about the good that statins do, there are many written about how bad statins are for you. There is a wealth of evidence telling you exactly why you should not be persuaded by doctors that statins are what you need. Read the following and make up your mind for yourself. http://www.westonaprice.org/moderndiseases/statin.html - read also http://www.newmediaexplorer.org/chris/2003/12/13/statin_drugs_coenzyme_q10_depletion.htm Make sure that doctors writing about how wonderful these drugs do not have a vested interest in their sale. They have billions of tablets to get rid of Simon. Sheila You should know that among the many dangers of statins drugs is anincreased risk of heart disease. Guest guest
Statins are not safe to take either, I had horrendous side effects from simvastatin till about 6 weeks after I stopped taking them!! I filled in a yellow form though, before I threw the tablets away, describing exactly the symptoms I'd experienced. Wonder if I should do one for levothyroxine............. Guest guest
Go ahead Glynis - the more yellow forms they get showiong how badly some people are affected by synthetic thyroxine, the better. trouble is, they are making FAR too much money to pay any attention to any complaints about it. Guest guest
Soy is one of the worst things you can have as a hypoT and lecithin is also mad from soy - it may be doing your cholesterol good but thyroid meds will do better - my cholesterol came down from 10+ to 7.6 with diet and down to 4.3 after being put onto thyroid meds, it is a symptom of hypoT. Luv nne but to have soya milk instead of skimmed and to take 3 teaspoonfuls lecithin granules daily (tasteless on muesli and nice on porridge) - you get them frm health food shop – and take magnesium and calcium tablets. Guest guest
I had been drinking lots of skim milk for the calcium as I am mainly bedbound (with ME) and had a Yorktest allergy test and a chat with their nutritionist. She told me to have a more vaired diet (I rarely ahd red meat) but to have soya milk instead of skimmed and to take 3 teaspoonfuls lecithin granules daily (tasteless on muesli and nice on porridge) - you get them frm health food shop – and take magnesium and calcium tablets. My cholesterol had not come down much over a few years desprte healthy eating but since trying this regime it came down in a year from 7.4 to 5.8 and this year is 4.8. Guest guest
Hi veronica, If you are hypothyroid any soya containing product should be avoided due to it’s goitrogenic properties- along with various other foods. Guest guest
Hi nne I had been on thyroxine since 1990 before my ME and cholesterol had come down frm when I was originally diagnosed hypoythyoroid, but then went up again and only came down after the lecithin and soya milk I have tried a higher dose of thyroxine but it made me feel hyperthyroid so I stopped it. It is so confusing to know what to do! Guest guest
Sounds like you might be better with a combination treatment Von. Have you any recent blood results for your thyroid function?
