Guest guest Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Janie--Primarily for my severe estrogen dominance, and am curious about my thyroid since I am currently on 4 grains and feeling fabulous on that======================================================= I am doing it for several reasons: 1. Dr. Brownstein prescribed it for me. 2. My urine iodine levels are undetectable. 3. Iodine helps convert thyroid hormones more efficiently and I have no thyroid so I depend on thyroid hormones from an outside source. 4. Dr. B says that iodine has an apoptosis effect. Big in cancer fighting. Iodine can cause tumors to shrink and necrose from the center. I have observed similar results with nodules and cysts in the thyroid, ovaries, and uterus after instituting orthoiodosupplementation." Page 69 - 70 Iodine by Dr. B " Iodine has many anticancer properties. Cancer cells, unlike normal cells, do not have a normal life cycle; they just keep dividing over and over. Normal cells have a life cycle, and when they eventually die, they are replaced with a new cell. This process of timed cellular death is known as apoptosis. Iodine has been shown to induce apoptosis (death) in breast and thyroid cancer cells. However, this apoptotic effect will be negated if a goitrogen is given. How does iodine provide this apoptotic effect? One mechanism may be the iodination of lipids. Lipids are fats that make up our cell membranes throughout our body. Iodine can become incorporated into lipids (fats) inside the cell. These substances are known as iodolipids. When iodine is incorporated into lipids, it helps to stabilize them and also helps each cell to maintain a normal life cycle. Iodine has been shown to be a potent antioxidant even more effective than Vitamin E, phosphatidyl choline, and Vitamin C. As with Vitamin C, iodine can function as both an antioxidant as well as an oxidant in the body. This dual effect makes it a strong anticancer agent. One of the best signs of health in the body is a balance between antioxidants and oxidants. Items like iodine and Vitamin C can help maintain that balance, and therefore, are some of the most powerful anti-cancer agents known." page 71-72 Iodine 5. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome. "Adequate iodine levels are necessary for proper immune system function. Iodine contains potent antibacterial, antiparasitic, antiviral, and anticancer properties. Iodine is also effective for treating fibrocystic breasts and ovarian cysts." Pg 25 of Iodine Probably too much info but that is why I am doing 50 mg of Iodoral. Still a bit unnerving for me and also my ND but so far we are hanging in there. B. Quote

Guest guest Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 - got up to 4 1/2 grains of Armour, which is approaching the usual upper limit, and felt a lot better but still had room for improvement. Plus prostate cancer doesn't sound like much fun, so I thought I might skip it if possible.loboshe <usns@...> wrote:I'm curious what the reasons are for those here. Janie--Primarily for my severe estrogen dominance, and am curious about my thyroid since I am currently on 4 grains and feeling fabulous on that Sharon--Severe estrogen dominance & fear of resulting breast cancer risks, " thyroid issues " that I don't think are actually due to my thryoid but to the ability to utilize the hormones. (After 2 months on iodine, the estrogen dominance has improved but has a lot more to go. The thryoid issues are over as far as I can tell and I'm off the Synthroid.) Quote

Hoping to rev up my throid and my metabolism. Hoping to feel better. Alobar: I am using Iodine for many different reasons. I have been having problems with my legs which seem to be a combination of diabetic complications (poor circulation) build-up of dietary oxalates, an opportunistic infects when the oxalates ooze out of sores on my legs. My doctor saw the infection, thought a bacteria was the cause of my problem and prescribed antibotics. Antibiotics helped the opportunistic infection, but did nothing for the underlying causes. Iodine promotes wound healing. I use Iodine on my legs about twice a week and my legs are much healthier looking. I have two toes with fungus under the nail. I believe the problems began when a mouse chewed my toes while I was sleeping. One of the side effects of diabetes is lack of sensitivity in the feet, so I did not wake up while I was being chewed upon. I use Iodine on my fungusy toenails every other day, sometimes daily, and my toe nails are looking better, but by no means cured. I have rotten teeth from many years of bad diet. So I am real prone to gum inflamations. I wash my mouth 3 or 4 times a day with 7 drops of Lugol's Iodine in about 2 ounces of water. Gums have not felt this good in years. I have had itchy sensitive ears since I was a teenage (I am 60 now). Various prescription salves used to help, then stopped working. I now put 3 drops of Iodine on a wet Q-tip and swab my ear canal, then repeat with a fresh Q-tip on the other ear. I do this twice a day now. Straight Lugol's was far too painful, but diluted it is fine. I can't swab my edars at bed tme because there is a slight burning which prevents me frfom falling asleep, but is not noticable when I am up doing things. Seems to be helping my ears but the healing process is slow. I have been using a lot of Dulse over the past 9 months or so. I generally use about 1 TBSP of Dulse per day, which the package says gives me 150% of the RDA. Quote
