Since the ginger helps with nausea, maybe it'll help the concoction go down. Maybe if you thrown in some raw organic honey, which also has medicinal properties, it'll make it tolerable. Ginger root helps with respiration. Tastes good with honey. I seem to think I may be allergic to cooked ginger. But, I could drink ginger tea or eat candied ginger, but the last couple times I cooked something with it, I had allergic reaction (one was to pumpkin pie.) Guest guest
First, bronchitis is generally viral, so nothing a doctor can really do for you, unless you need a breathing treatment. Which you won't, if you take enough Vitamin C. Iodine used to be in many cough remedies because it thins the mucous. (Some people in this group don't take iodine themselves, so I mention it.) For respiratory infections, I found 5-6,000 mg of Vitamin C PER HOUR chased them away. It works quite well. I went from having respiratory infections for a couple months at a time, to chasing away a very serious one within 24 hours, and then simply not getting them any more due to adequate Vitamin c intake. This may be a bit overboard, but it illustrates the point - http://www.doctoryourself.com/colds.html Dr. Cathcart advocates treating pneumonia with up to 200,000 milligrams of Vitamin C daily, often intravenously. You and I can simulate a 24 hour IV of Vitamin C by taking it by mouth very, very often. When I had pneumonia, it took 2,000 mg of Vitamin C every six minutes to get me to saturation. My oral daily dose was over 100,000 mg. Fever, cough and other symptoms were reduced in hours; complete recovery took just a few days. Bronchitis clears up even faster. That is performance at least as good as any antibiotic will give, and the vitamin is both safer and cheaper. Treating respiratory infections with massive amounts of Vitamin C is not a new idea at all. Frederick R. Klenner, M.D. and J. McCormick, M.D. used this approach successfully for decades beginning back in the 1940's! You will want to consult their works, listed in the Bibliography under " Vitamin C " . Doctors who think that Vitamin C generally has merit, but that massive doses are ineffective or somehow harmful will do well to read the original papers for themselves. Clinical evidence confirms the powerful antibiotic effect of Vitamin C when used in sufficient quantity ************************* Dr. Cathcart has said a lot about Vitamin C. http://www.leaflady.org/lung_health.htm I once saw orthomolecular physician F. Cathcart, M.D., http://www.orthomed.com, on a national TV talk show. He said that disease names can be a waste of time. He prefers to classify illness by how much vitamin C it takes to cure them. Bronchitis, for example, is a 60-gram (per day) cold. Pneumonia would be a 120-gram cold. " ************************************ When I had my last serious respiratory infection, I probably took at least 60 grams that day. Went to my thyroid doc on Monday, who was willing to give me Augmentin because it sounded like it might be pneumonia. I had recently been on Augmentin for six weeks , and didn't want to go on it again. Tuesday, I went to my family doc who gave me a breathing treatment and a chest X-ray for pneumonia. I was supposed to go back the next day, since I had been so bad. So, they could see I was OK. The next morning, I was better. Didn't need to see the doctor, and haven't been back for an infection since. With my history, ordainarily the respiratory problems would have continued all year, but one day on several grams of Vitamin C an hour and no more respiratory infection, and none in the last 3 years. Note, you don't just stop the Vitamin C, you wean down unless you want the infection to recur. Cathcart's method really does work. This is interesting. My serum magnesium has always been high, but - http://www.leaflady.org/lung_health.htm It has been found that most people who struggle with respiratory dis-eases have low serum magnesium Skipper >From: " Laree Kline " <lareekline@...> >This may well do the trick: > >7 - 9 cloves garlic, peeled and sliced >1 " - 2 " ginger root, peeled and sliced >2 bay leaves >pinch of cayenne >2 quarts filtered water > >Simmer to reduce liquid, about 20 minutes. Guest guest
Bronchitis often starts as a nasal infection, and in fact bronchitis can be a mis-diagnosed nasal infection. A couple of drops of iodine in a bottle of saline (Ocean saline spray, for instance) works wonders for sinusitis. -- On 12/24/06, Ives <mmives@...> wrote: Of course, on Sunday Christmas Eve, I wake up with a nasty case of bronchitis this morning. All my books are packed away and I can't find them anywhere, and obviously I can't get to a doctor until Tuesday at the earliest. Does anybody have any references or home remedies for bronchitis? Guest guest
Thanks for all the help, everyone. I have a 10:30 doc. appt., and I have not been to the doc. for other than thyroid meds for probably 15 years, so that should tell you how poorly I'm feeling. I had a 103F temp. yesterday (when my normal is 97.5), so that was a pretty hefty fever. Fever seems gone today, I did cave and take some ibuprofen last night around 11 pm so I could sleep, the headache was unbearable, but the fever was already dropping and down to 100 by then. But this coughing has made my entire body ache, and my chest is so wheezy and tight, despite all my essential oils, Vitamin C, herbal tea, etc. etc. I'm afraid it may be bronchitis or pneumonia.
