Guest guest
>> Could I have caused my stomach (band) to slip?<< Probably not. A single episode of vomiting -- even a violent one -- isn't likely to dislodge a band. It takes an extended period of abuse. Regular overstuffing the stoma and regular barfing. Guest guest
oh cindy. i am so sorry to hear of your pain. i hate it so much that that is what keeps me from having stuff. i am not well versed in this, but i would hope that one mishap wouldnt make the band slip. Guest guest
Thanks Diane and Sharon. I was really worried. You can bet I won't eat THAT again! I just ate some cheerios soaked in skim milk and a popsicle and my stomach feels o.k. I am really hungry, but I'm not going to push my luck. Thanks again - cindy > >I ate pasta tonight and ended up really stuck. Guest guest
Hi , Been there, done that, and am still doing that. Apparently its not a good thing but I found it is the only way to fix the pain. Being banded 10 weeks now and having only just reached a good level of restriction, its all such a learning curve. My doc gave me a handbook on gastric banding prior to surgery which I just looked at again and in there, there is a section on eating after surgery. It says that you can expect to vomit 2 to 3 times per week for a few weeks because you are retraining yourself to eat differently and chew differently. It can't be done overnight unless your superwoman. Anyway what I'm rambling on about is that for it to be in a medical handbook produced in Australia, it must be a fairly common occurence. I definitely would not recommend it but hey - it happens and I believe forums are for sharing experiences, whether they are right or wrong. So please!!! No-one be-head me for my story. Sometimes I'm too scared to post in case I say the wrong thing. > cindywebb1667 <cindywebb1667@...> wrote: > > I ate pasta tonight and ended up really stuck. Guest guest
, ANY barf or pb can cause a slip. At the very least, they are likely loosening the stutures to make futurte slips even more possible. I just don't undertsnad why you really continue to test and push and ignore the band rules. Pasta is not a good band food . period. If you're serious about Band safety, losing weight, and reclaiming your helth, you'll stop all of this poor eating. It's a conscious choice you're making to eat poor foods and risk your band. You can't eat pasta unless you choose to buy it and prepare it. I hope you'll consider seeing a therapist to start to work on these issues - why you're choosing to hurt yourself and why you're not following the rules that will help your Band work and help you lose so you can live longer and healthier. Something is going on here, and you're often putting yourself in danger. Why? A bit of " tough love " becuase you're worth giving yourself better care! The band is no substitute for judgment. If you expect the band to force you to lose weight, you will continue to be disappointed. The band helps you by reducing hunger but only if you eat appropriately. You are the only one who decides what to put in your mouth. Just like everyone else. Guest guest
Boy all you guys are really sympathetic and supportive ! I didn't ask for judgement - all I wanted was someone to 'talk' to about my fear of band slippage. I'm glad you are all so supportive. I'm so glad you are all so perfect. > > >> If it was as easy as you make it sound I wouldn't have needed the > band in the first place.<< > > If it were as difficult as you seem to think it is, how do so many other > people manage to make it work and be happy about it? > > The band is no substitute for judgment. Guest guest
today i had the biggest craving for pizza, but i just kept telling myself that it would cause me to pb/vomit/whatever you call it. that was enough to make me almost sick just thinking about it. maybe cindy now that you have felt how awful it is, that will help you avoid it in the future. i hope so. Guest guest
cindy, it is never easy. no one said it was easy. sandy is just asking why you keep fighting it. it is really not easy. i never said it was easy for me. the band does really help me though by reducing the amount i eat and keeping me from being too hungry. but i have to do my part and eat the right things. no, it is not easy. but you have to do your part too...really. otherwise, you will slip, barf, and be uncomfortable, not to mention not lose weight..altho as i recall you have lost over 50 lbs which is fantastic. Guest guest
cindy, snap out of it. attitude wont help here. we all naturally responded to your situation......in a pretty honest way. what did you want us to do...say, there there cindy it will be ok? do you really want that? or do you want honest, touch, real dialogue.? Guest guest
, how long have you been banded for. If you are relatively new to this as I am, I completely understand where you are coming from. Don't worry about all the comments. When I first posted, I got exactly the same response to my questions. At first I thought, they could all take a hike but as time has gone on - only 9 weeks - I've got to understand how they all think. > cindywebb1667 <cindywebb1667@...> wrote: > > BTW I am seeing a therapist. > > > > > > > > > > I ate pasta tonight and ended up really stuck. Guest guest
cindy, its a choice. pasta or no pasta. its as simple as that. you've chosen banding and there are rules. yes its that simple. before banding, you also had a choice: don't eat it or use it as comfort. but now, you can't continue these choices and expect the band to perform magic (or stay functionally sound). consider past behavior up to today as in the past and begin anew at once. with the results pasta is producing, you can't afford to risk everything by pushing the band limits. And this applies to everything known to be unfriendly to your band. good luck and let us know how you proceed and how you're doing. george p.s. early on after a few weeks, i was out to dinner with a friend and took a small garlic roll (my first bread product post banding. it got stuck. several hours later, relief came. AS much as i love bread, especially high quality ryes and multi grains, i wouldn't dare trying it again. at least not the soft part of bread. just not worth it. that's one lesson i'll never forget. Bell peppers, another crappy choice for me. > > > > > > I ate pasta tonight and ended up really stuck. Guest guest
cindy, this board is for support and learning from each other and experts in the area of banding. please don't take an attitude. we are here to help. and please, if you're brand of support is a pat on the back and the assurance that everything will be okay, this isn't the place to seek it. when someone is making mistakes, we must put in a correction. please look at the commentary as in your best interest. Sharon and Sandy and I are not being self-righteous when we say its your choice, don't hide behind the notion that its " hard " . We've all been there and learned where the responsibility lies. and yes, your original intention was to ascertain whether or not you injured yourself, but the fact is that you were misbehaving, band wise, and if you don't put in the corrections you'll likely find yourself in big trouble. we care about your success and will continue to make you feel good when its appropriate and give you the gears when that's appropriate. now the most important thing is that you take this in and continue to post and read the digests. please don't get pissed off and leave. that would not be in your best interest. believe me, in no time at all, you will be the one issuing " tough love " on this board. we care or we wouldn't waste our time here. george > > > > >> If it was as easy as you make it sound I wouldn't have needed the > > band in the first place.<< > > > > If it were as difficult as you seem to think it is, how do so many > other > > people manage to make it work and be happy about it? > > > > The band is no substitute for judgment. Guest guest
I have been banded since 7/24/07. I was told by my center that I should try each food one at a time (like a baby)till I see how I tolerate it. Although pasta was listed as a probably problem food we were NOT told NOT to eat it. We were told that everyone is different (BTW I can eat pizza with NO Problems)and if a food causes us problems to introduce it at another time. I've eaten pasta many times with no problem. This time, however, I ate too fast (I am still learning). All I wanted to know what what I might have done by puking. Everyone I've ever spoken to has pb's or slimed or thrown up at least once. I wasn't testing limits - I was eating a food that I've eaten before (in tiny amounts I might add) and ran into a problem that made me want to get support from others who have been down the path I'm going. Thats it. > > > > > > > > > > I ate pasta tonight and ended up really stuck. Guest guest
I was looking for information - not attitude. This is obviously not the group for me. > > > > > > >> If it was as easy as you make it sound I wouldn't have needed the > > > band in the first place.<< > > > > > > If it were as difficult as you seem to think it is, how do so many > >other > > > people manage to make it work and be happy about it? > > > > > > The band is no substitute for judgment. Guest guest
Yes I feel the same way. I fear posting also. Yes I want honest answers and not coddling, but I want answers not judgements. I've had enough people judge me for being fat - I don't need people judging me for making mistakes along my journey to thinness. I'm not making mistakes on purpose. I've eaten incorrectly for 40 years - I'm not going to automatically start eating right cause someone wrote material on it. Oh how easy it is to be at goal and judge those who are trying to get there. How easy it is for thin people to look at fat people and think " why don't they just eat right? " I want to benefit from other's experiences and since people seem to be afraid to post here - I'm not getting that benefit. > > > > > > I ate pasta tonight and ended up really stuck. Guest guest
But I wouldn't know if bell peppers were bad for me unless I tried them right? > > > > > > > > I ate pasta tonight and ended up really stuck. Guest guest
as i have said in the past. pasta and pizza and bread were the things that helped me get fat. so even if i think i might be able to eat them, i tell myself that i cannot because i will puke, which i hate. i do every once and a while have a bite of bread , a piece of pasta, etc. but it doesnt taste so good when i have to cut it into tiny pieces, and chew it to death. so i dont eat it for now. it doesnt mean i never will, but i have sort of given them up based upon the majority of banded folks that have problems with them. i am not in the mood to test whether i can eat something that isnt very good for me. i do test myself for food that is good for me though. i love this board because no one minces words, no one coddles me, but just tells it to me like it is. but they do so out of kindness and no malice or anything but wanting to help. that is, i believe, the spirit in which people responded to you. i hope you can see that. i feel that folks sympathize and empathize though. i am sort of glad it happened to you because you now know how AWFUL it feels!!! as i said before, i HATE it. quite often i will be eating something i like, and i start feeling that feeling, and i get really mad because i am not ready to stop eating it.
