Hi,

My neck is fatter in the front. There is extra fat hanging below my chin.

What causes the thyroid to swell? Is there any way to get rid of the extra

fat?

Sue

Keeping in mind I wasn't diagnosed Hashi's/hypo until age 48, I do have

one vague recollection from my early 30s of looking in the mirror and

thinking my neck looked sort of large. I think now that was probably

some thyroid swelling at that time.

just wondering for my own personal reasons...because my GP said

something real off the cuff, (he's a jerk) and it made me wonder if he

was thinking that my goiter might turn into Hashi's...

just curious, but thanks!

Sorry Cindi, one more thing after reading your email again...I want to

clarify. They call my multi nodular thyroid gland a goiter. But you

can't see it. You can't see all goiters. In fact I had three Dr's say

they couldn't feel anything, even though my OB/GYN said she thought she

barely could...maybe? Which is why i didn't have a thyroid ultrasound

until 3 years later. I was even told by my Dr, after he reviewed all

of blood work, that I was perfectly healthy with nothing a wrong, it

was only until I said, " even the thyroid ultrasound? " and then he

said...Oh, wait a minute...

I am on 90 mg of Armour, and that has improved my hypo symptoms quite a lot.

I still need to improve my fat neck and puffy eyes. My tests show this is

as high a dose as I can go. I am waiting to have my consult with Dr.

Fleches next week. My saturation level is 77% and I have not been

supplementing with iodine. I am also doing a saliva hormone test. That

will take about a month for me to do the test and get the results.

Sue

the thyroid swelling can be from iodine deficiency...over or under

production of hormone from the gland....or more serious disorder

like cancer.

as for the fat...i had quite a bit of extra " cushioning " in my face

when hypo...and my facial structure appears completely different now

that all the extra fluid of hypo is gone....so my first question

would be are you optimally treated?

One thing that helps (don't laugh!) is weight lifting. Have you ever noticed how little fat weight lifters have under their chins? Plus it builds up your bones and causes all your glands to work better. Even on old ladies. It only takes about 15 minutes 3x a week to be effective. A good book helps, or better, a live person to help, at first. But it's really easy ... -- On 2/14/07, Mosier <mosierm@...> wrote:

Our bodies store toxins in fat cells when there is no excretory route, or there

is a back up in the excretory route. Fat deposits can develop in areas of our

bodies that are "toxic" basically. And if the fat cells in that area are not sufficient,

more can be generated.

The toxins will be "stashed" in the nearest area.

It is speculated that persons with excess fat in their neck, and nasopharynx

area, have chronic mucosal, or glandular infection.

I know this is true for a friend of mine...he has pretty low body fat everywhere

but the back of his neck, and he has had recurrent nasal infections since

he was in his twenties, after experimenting with drugs.

No matter what he does, this area remains, and even gets worse after a

round of antibiotics.

I do lift weights. We bought a Nautilus gym because I was

having very severe knee problems and the orthopedic surgeon said I needed to

lift weights. I have also lost 8 lbs of the 10 or so I put on, but the

neck will not change. I hope Dr Flechas will tell me so supplement with iodine

and that will correct it.

Hi,

This is one reason I am hoping to be able to start supplementing

with iodine. I have read numerous posts about people detoxing when using

iodine. I hope I am right about this, and if my neck problem is from

toxins it will shrink with the iodine.
