Guest guest
Hi, Chanel - congrats on the new baby! did you get a fluro check before you started with fills again ? sometimes, with an unexpected band pregnany, the tubing disconnects or a leak develops, or the band shifts a bit. a fluoro before starting with fills again would show this. When they withdraw the " old " fluid before they put more fill in, is it mostly all still there? If not, a leak should be suspected and tested for - with that fluoro. It could also be simply that you don't have enough fill quite yet.- 7 cc in a 10 cc band would not be enough for some. but do you feel ANY restriction at all? Guest guest
If you don't have a proper fill you don't have a proper fill. Things change from time to time, and if it needs more, it needs more. The numbers are totally meaningless. Some need 2, some need 11, some need something else. dan Thursday, March 6, 2008, 6:40:38 PM, you wrote: > I got pregnant six months after getting the band. Guest guest
So I had an upper GI and they said that it appears that the band slipped and there is no pouch. However, I can still eat. My doctor's office said that if it slipped I wouldn't be able to eat. Anyone have the same experience or offer some advise. > > > I got pregnant six months after getting the band. Guest guest
ChanTEL :-), I'm afraid the office is not correct. There are several kinds of slips. The BAD slips cause pain and often total inability to eat/drink, and are an emergency situation that often requires surgery to repair. the small slips do not cause major symptoms - perhaps, a bit of new reflux, a small change in ability to eat (either less or more) and are often suble and easily missed. that is why periodic assessment fluoros are needed, even if we do not get them with every fill. all slips are a problem and need to be fixed so they do not case damage or progress. The band also does not work to help us if it is slipped. It sounds as if you have a small slip, also called a " pouch dilation " , and the " fix " is usually a total unfill and rest period of a few weeks or months. During this time, the pouch usually heals and goes back to a safe position. If it does not, then a surgical re- positioning is needed. Please clarify this with your BSND doc. Radiologists oftern cannot accurately assess a band=related fluoro, as few have any experience with this. There have been many wrong diagnoses. if you have any concerns, it's always wise to consult a second, highly-experienced BAND surgeon for his advice and opinion. Guest guest
Sandy, Thank you for the reply. I have an Upper EGD scheduled for Wednesday with another Band Doctor. I work for a Hospital and I was telling a doctor who did the lecture at our facility about my problem and he said he thought there may be two pouches and order the Upper GI. When I e-mailed my doctor about not having restriction they blew it off because I was still able to eat. I just want my band back. Hopefully this new doctor will fix it right away and not make me wait. I am just afraid of them saying that they need to take it out. I would be totally horrified. Hopefully that doesn't happen. > > > > > > > I got pregnant six months after getting the band.
