Pam your baby will be even more wonderful with more iodine but dont forget the magneisum chloride!!!!!!!

Just diagnosed with hypothyroid. Am researching iodine supplementation (thanks for this group - appears to have a TON of info). Any thoughts on nursing while on iodine supplements? Have not yet come across anything in the files.

Iodine is concentrated in the breasts by the hormones. It is a vital nutrient for your nursing child for brain development. Unfortunately how much is OK is a hard thing to know as there seems to be precious little written. If I were you I would probably take 1 - 12.5 mg Iodoral. I have a GF who is doing that and nursing her almost 1 year old. She nurses for years and has 6 children so she needed it!

I have similar questions and concerns, as my daughter is pregnant and

I am fairly certain she has had thyroid problems. I did read that

high doses of iodine could put the fetus in distress, which I don't

really doubt. I know that it sure makes me feel ODD at times. On

the other hand, not enough iodine can cause low IQ and even

cretinism, which according to Wikapedia means:

A condition of severely stunted physical and mental growth due to

untreated congenital deficiency of thyroid hormones

(hypothyroidism)..

I finally suggested that my daughter take kelp and maybe tiny tiny

pieces of a crushed Iodoral. Now whether she followed my advice I

don't know. Ultimately we all need to do what we feel comfortable

with.
