iF YOU ARE FEELING WELL ON 150 MCGS THEN WHY WOULD YOU DROP BACK DOWN TO 100MCGS. (Sorry - I am not shouting - just the capitals locked). Do be careful that you do not have symptoms starting to come back after you have dropped it and remember, you only went up to 150 mcgs because you were not doiong so well on a lower dose.

I had been ill for a very long time I would estimate about 8+ yearsall in all. I had got used to eating very little because I was afraidof putting weight on. So ate like a mouse believe it or not. So once Istarted taking my thyroxine well not straight away after the first 3months, I started to loose weight about half a stone a month. Becauseof the success it spurred me on to eat healthier. It was the firsttime in years that I had been able to actually loose weight when Idieted this was great! My dose is up to 150 but I am going to drop itif necessary now my bmi is much less to 100 (am having a blood testfirst!). I just cannot contemplate feeling the way I did before I feelsick when I look at the during photo remembering how ill I felt. Don'tknow which type of thyroid disease I have got though.

HI

When you have written your story, do send it to me as i am collecting as many as I can, to show how the NHS has left the majority of us without a proper diagnosis and without the necessary treatment we needed to give us back our normal health. I have quite a collection already, but the more I can get the better. Anybody else, please also let me have your story too.

Let us know the results of your blood tests as soon as you get them - and don't forget to tell us the reference range for each test.

Luv - Sheila

HiI did not think that it was a high dose and on 150 I felt it was quite amoderate dose and doing for me what I wanted - MAKING ME FEEL WELL - Iam having a blood test this morning so I am hoping that the results areok. I am going to look at the things you said in our files and perhapsyou are right about that.

http://archinte.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/full/167/13/1428"Conclusions These findings indicate that smoking is negatively associated with hypothyroidism but positively associated with hyperthyroidism. The associations with smoking cessation suggest that smoking may have reversible effects on thyroid function. Notably, we report for the first time, to our knowledge, a lower prevalence of overt hypothyroidism among current smokers. This makes so much sense. How many times I have heard that when somebody stopped smoking, they suddenly found they had a hypothyroid problem. Both and I smoked, but have stopped for years now, but both of us developed hypothyroidism. Perhaps the smoking was a 'crutch' as Dr Derry says and raised our metabolism sufficiently enough so we didn't know we had hypothyroidism.

Luv - Sheila

HiI noticed that when I stopped smoking that is when my symptoms gotworse I did not know if it was a coincidence but I definitely thoughtabout it and then when I started smoking again things did improve abit. So yes I think that there is a link and when I stop smoking againwhich I am going to do I will have to watch my tsh and symptoms as Iwill probably have to up my medication. I was in a conversation withDr Derry when I first started taking my thyroxine and I mentioned thisto him and he said that smoking raised the metabolism and helped withthe symptoms. He said that quite often people only realised that theyhad a thyroid problem when they stopped smoking as they lost thecrutch that was temporarily keeping them going. That is one reason Iam afraid to stop smoking again! But I am going to. I need to becauseof my chest.Regards> >> > Hi> > > > I did not think that it was a high dose and on 150 I felt it was > quite a moderate dose and doing for me what I wanted - MAKING ME FEEL > WELL ->No virus found in this incoming message.

Hi ,

You would probably do better on Armour or one of the other natural

thyroid meds as you probably can't convert T4 to T3 anymore. A healthy

thyroid produced around10% T3 so all T4 stretched the mechanism in the liver

until it stops. When Sheila gets back online ask her for a list of endo's

in your area that are openminded then ask your doc for a referral through

'choose and book'

thyroid treatment

Hi

I did not think that it was a high dose and on 150 I felt it was quite a

moderate dose and doing for me what I wanted - MAKING ME FEEL WELL - I

am having a blood test this morning so I am hoping that the results are

ok. I am going to look at the things you said in our files and perhaps

you are right about that.

I think the doctor thought I was putting it on. Also I

could not loose weight I went from 9st 12lb to 11 half stone and went to

a dietician and when I showed her what I had eaten for the week and she

weighed me and I had not lost weight and even gained it one week she did

not believe me either. Looking back now it makes me think was this my

thyroid starting to go down or problems with my pituitary gland?

Well I will look at your files. Thanks for all your help wish me luck

for my test I have not taken my thyroid meds this morning and just hope

the results are no less than las time which was .07 which was about six

months ago.

I can't do polls on this particular forum , but we can do one on the Chat Forum. Ask Lilian, make some suggestions as to what we need to know and then we can set something up where members just have to tick to boxes. Unfortunately, I am too busy right this minute but somebody else could do it.

I've been meaning to ask this question about dosing in relation to weight because my dog was diagnosed recently with hypoT and dogs' doses are assessed according to what their optimum/optimal?? weight should be....

The optimum thing confuses me even more...

Mo

, does your GP prescribe according to your weight, ie-the less the patient weighs, the less medication they need?My GP admitted to me that because I am so heavy (I am now 4 to 5 stone over the ideal chart weight thanks to hypoT), I could probably cope with a bigger dose. He's waiting for the blood test results first though. It could lead to a vicious circle effect if an effective dose while you are bigger is adjusted down to an ineffective level everytime you lose weight! Tracey

Hi ,

Doc is being silly. Lots of folk are on 150mcg and more. Don't take

meds on day of test until after blood has been drawn or it can make results

look better then they actually are. Ye if you have lost a lot of weight then

a dose reduction may be needed, BUT not at the expense of you health- better

to do more exercise if you can. Note that Dr. Tofts NHS booklet says it is

acceptable to have a low TSH and high T4 to reduce symptoms. Show this to

her if necessary- you should be able to get it from Boots etc.

Hi

I told my doctor I had put it up to 150 about two months ago because I

started to feel ill again. My daughter noticed it too and said its as

if you have gone back two months! When I told the doctor I had done

this and explained that I had been having the cold shivers, feeling

tired etc etc again she was cross and said that 100 was a big dose and

that she did not want me to carry on taking 150 .So I do not think I can be

overdosing as my pulse would be over 80 and surely you would get

symptoms. What do you think?
