It's my observation in myself and from reports from others that DIM is a powerful goitrogen.

You may be canceling the thyroid benefits of Iodoral with DIM. I know a lot of alt med generalists use DIM but I think the trend will go away. I've even heard reports of people getting light-headed from DIM-- almost like a hormone blocker.

Thanks for raising this subjects!

3,3'-Diindolylmethane or DIM is derived from the digestion of indole-3-carbinol, found in Brassica vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower. The reputation of Brassica vegetables as medicinal plants rests in part on the activities of diindolylmethane.

I've been using DIM for a number of months now, an also ran out so went off it from time to time, and have not seen any difference on or off it. Just my experience ... (on 3 1/2 grains Armour -- now weaned off Cortef as of today!!!!!, and using bioidentical estriol).

DIM is used to help detox, including detox xenoestrogens (fake estrogens that mimic estrogen in your body, causing estrogen dominance symptoms). It is also found in Canola.

Hi,

When I was diagnosed with breast cysts, DIM was recommended to me and I purchased some. My intuition went off like mad and I felt very uncomfortable taking it so I didn’t after a couple of days. So the mention of goitrogenic effects interests me. What is also interesting is the mention earlier on of the iodine contents of food and my vega test results.

I have consistently tested sensitive to broccoli, and it contains a lot of I3C. But what is especially intriguing is that I also test as sensitive to foods that have are rated as having a lot of iodine, such as cod. My background is Norwegian and so that surprised me because my ancestors lived on cod. I think that there may be a connection to nutritional deficiencies and the foods that test as problematic.

As I have been eating in a manner that is a better fit for my metabolism, my food sensitivities have greatly decreased. I suspect that when I have a new vega test done, that there will be a shift, now that my nutrients are more balanced. My method for determining what I need has been through hair testing. So far it has been very accurate for me, with health symptoms matching exactly what was indicated by the hair test.
