Guest guest
Hi , rice does not go good for me. Ohh yea chips and an cracker go fine. Potatoes do not go good either unless is mashed very well. And about chicken: sometimes it is ok but it has to be very solft others comes right out. Same thing with boiled eggs. Unless is cut and mixed with something it will not go good, usually after the third bite, it comes out. I stay away from rice, bread, potatoes. Find a veggie that works for you. Broccoli is hard at times for me, young lettuce leaves with salad dressing and a nice t-bone, is what I normally eat. I get a pudding for dessert. Fruits are hard too, unless some cans of peaches very solft, or apple sauce. Good luck Lidia Check <dandmcheck@...> wrote: Is anybody out there. It must be a lovely day in the US. Usually around this time there's many around. Anyway, my doctor suggested rice as an easy eat but I've had it twice in the last week and it was anything but easy. At first I blamed it on the chicken that was in it but last night it was plain rice. Doesn't make sense that rice won't go down but potato chips and twisties slide through. __________________________________________________

My sister-in-law (who is also banded) makes her chicken salad in the food processor but mine just mushes everything. I've found that if I chop the chicken, onions, and eggs with my Vidalia onion chopper, everything is the same size and it's all small enough to pass smoothly through my band, but still has enough texture to satisfy me. Guest guest
hi michelle. just checking in. rice isnt too good for me, although if i am careful i can have almost anything. i have had couscous and barley, and if i really am careful they will also work. my band is inconsistent. sometimes it is tight and sometimes not..so that tells me i have to be careful all the time. i have also had no problem with a potato chip, most cookies, ice cream, cake etc. wouldnt you know. Guest guest
>> Doesn't make sense that rice won't go down but potato chips and twisties slide<< Many people (including me) can't eat rice. Chips go down because they " dissolve " with chewing. Don't know what twisties are but I doubt they're good for you. ;-)
Guest guest
All meats - especially chicken - need to be very moist and soft. Eggs, also, need to be very moist. Dry things easily " stick " - so use lots of lowfat saices, marinades, lowfat gravies, salsas, etc to keep foods very moist. Your chopping up the ingredients for your chocken sald (not smashing and mushing them all up) sounds just perfect! We need enough solid chunks and things to chew to count as a " solid " food. More on this food stuff in the Band Guide in the files here. Sandy R > > And about chicken: sometimes it is ok but it has to be very solft others comes right out. Same thing with boiled eggs. Guest guest
i have found that i LOVE the low fat greek yogurt called phage ( i think) that i can get in my local supermarket. it is thick and yummy and i have it with meat that is dry. i sometimes put horseradish in it or curry powder, etc. and it really livens up the meat!~ At 03:07 PM 10/21/2007, you wrote: >All meats - especially chicken - need to be very moist and soft. >Eggs, also, need to be very moist. Guest guest
Hello , Sunday, October 21, 2007, 7:56:31 AM, you wrote: > Is anybody out there. It must be a lovely day in the US. Another example of all being different. I can't do rice and am amazed your doc recommended. I can't do chips or rice, or french fries. I can do mashed potatoes of they're runny enough with milk and butter. Of course that makes them pretty bad, so I generally avoid them except for a few special occasions. With rice, there may be a difference between " sticky rice " and " loose rice " (or fried rice). To me the sticky is just a big gum ball that gets stuck, and the loose is almost impossible to really chew enough (since there are always some pieces that don't get chewed). Don't we have fun? -- Best regards, Dan mailto:honu@...
Guest guest
, Rice is on the list of problem foods, and most cannot tolerate it. Even if we can tolerate it, it is VERY poor nutrition , so should be avoided. I cant imagine any doc telling you to eat it! All junk foods go down easily, since it is mostly greasy junk and air. rice swells and clogs the stoma. You might want to print out a copy of the Band Guide in the files here, that covers all this type of thing. THis info about rice and junk foods is also in Dr. Jessie Ahroni's Band book, and in Dr Ariel Ortiz's band book. You might also share the Band Guide with your doc to help him learn. Sadly, many of the newer (and even some older) Band docs just don't know good Band nutrition and food choices. Sandy R > > Is anybody out there. It must be a lovely day in the US.
