Guest guest
Hi, I am new here and this is my first post. I am just learning about the health effects of iodine, and have spent days looking for a good source . Does anyone know where to get the 5% Lugol's at the best price? Thanks, San
Guest guest
This is the only place I know of. There is also a file on the groups website for sources but it needs to be cleaned up since the DEA law went into effect many are not selling anymore and the quantity that you can buy is no longer a large amount (over 2 oz). http://www.jcrows.com/iodine.html 1 oz $19.95 http://www.amazon.com/Lugols-Iodine-2-Fluid-Oz/dp/B000I20HJY/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=\ UTF8 & s=hpc & qid=1197724202 & sr=8-1 2 oz $18.95 I personally take the pill form. It is called Iodoral - It can be purchased from here: ================================== http://www.breastcancerchoices.org/order.html 180 tablets (12.5 mg) $33.95 + $5.95 flat rate shipping 90 tablets (12.5 mg) $22.95 + $4.95 shipping ==================================== If you want the 50 mgs then you will need to order from this website - it is the only place that sells the high dose. 30 tablets (50 mg) $26.40 (free shipping over $100 - have lots of other great supplements and you earn points with each purchase that can be used as money off) http://www.illnessisoptional.com/ace/product.asp?ProdID=19322 90 tablets (12.5 mg) $21.95 180 tablets (12.5 mg) $34.95 ========================================= Iodo-caps (100 tablets) 12.5 mgs are $17.95 http://www.gaines.com/store/Hollywood/HHP11001info.html The only issue with this one is that the iodine docs are not sure of how long the iodine stays inside the capsule they have a hunch that the potency weakens with its exposure to air. ============================ Iodo-caps $16.15 100 tablets http://www.bayho.com/p/398004.html =========================== Maybe others have sources for the liquid. Guest guest
This depends on the state you are in for some of us we have always had to have a prescription for iodine. Guest guest
Thanks to everyone for all the answers and sources for iodine. I have called several Labs and other companies that advertised the Lugol's in larger quantities like 16 oz for cheap but they said they could not sell to the public anymore without a prescription. When I mentioned all the other sources online that sell it w/o scrips she said 'well we obey the law'. Maybe it's just the larger amount? How could these other places sell it illegally? I'm interested in the post about Wal-Mart. Is that the original Lugol's do you know? In my reading I came across some iodines that were said to be 'solutions' or watered down. I'm not sure what solutions mean; to me it's just a liquid or fluid, which it is anyway. The labs told me that what they sold was the Lugol's 'recipe', when I asked if it was the Original Lugol's. But if it's 5% wouldn't it have to be the same thing? Was the Walmart iodine 5%, without a scrip? Thanks, San Attachment: vcard [not shown]
Guest guest
It's illegal to sell the 5%/10% concentration except in 1 oz quantities, and it's illegal to sell more than one 1-ounce bottle per transaction. It is legal to sell the less concentrated form, 2%/4%, in greater quantities, such as 16 oz bottles. Terms like " the Original Lugol's " and " Lugol's recipe " do not explain the concentration. You would have to know whether it's 5% elemental iodine and 10% potassium iodide, or if it's, instead, 2% elemental iodine and 4% potassium iodide. That information must be on the labels, so any lab or retail organization should be able to give you that information. With the lower concentration (2%/4%), 5 drops gives you the same dose as 2 drops of the higher concentration (5%/10%) of Lugol's. It's not so important which concentration you get, but it is important to know what quantity you need for a dose that's comparable to the 5%/10% solution. Some distributors may sell the higher concentration in larger quantities if they keep detailed records of who buys the products and for what purpose. That's usually for agricultural, laboratory, or science purposes. The law states: " Individuals that distribute more than one package/bottle of Lugol's Solution (of any size) per transaction, are subject to CSA recordkeeping and import/export requirements. " The complete law is here: http://www.jcrows.com/iodinealert.html The law went into effect on August 1, 2007, so it's possible that some individuals who sell it infrequently are not current with the law and might inadvertently sell the higher concentration in illegal quantities, without prescription and without keeping the required records of who is making the purchase and for what purpose. A low cost source of the tablet form of Lugol's is here: http://www.relentlessimprovement.com/ Enter " iodine " in their search box to go to the product. Their prices keep improving. Now one bottle (of 180 tablets) is $33.00. Two or three bottles are $30.00 per bottle, and four or more bottles are $25.00 per bottle. One tablet is equal to two drops of the higher concentration of Lugol's solution. Barbara Did you have a prescription? They are not supposed to sell that much at one time. Guest guest
Hi, I called Wal-Mart today and asked about the Lugol's Iodine they sell. They told me it was not 'Lugol's', but 'Humco' brand. Their supplier is McKesson. A bottle of tincture 1 oz size is 9-12.00, the 16 oz was a good deal more. The ratio is 7% iodine to 5% potassium oidide. I guess that's why they label it 'strong'. But this is the first time I have come across these numbers and wonder if anyone might know what this recipe is like and is it safe with so low a quotient of postassium? I didn't order yet until I get more information. Thanks, Attachment: vcard [not shown]
