How can one post a " good find " and get criticized for doing so? Nowhere in

my post did I say whip up a salad of just lettuce and get on with your day.

My salads ARE nutritious, thank you. They include protein, dairy and fiber.

It's what's working for me because I'm STILL not able to eat 3 ounces of

protein.

And since we're being critical here--please note that carrots--particularly

raw--have a HIGH glycemic index. In fact, they are WORSE than rippened bananas

(U.S. 52), which are one of the worse things that a diabetic can eat.

Please remember that many people on this list have comorbidities--including

diabetes--which helped in their decision to get the band in order to lose

weight.

So, raw carrots are one of the " no-no " veggies to serve a diabetic,

fiber-licious or not.

Feel free to visit glycemicindex.com to learn more about the glycemic indexes

of foods you choose to eat, especially before you criticize a suggestion made

by listmates. Here's the info. on carrots:

carrots (Canada, raw) 92 (U.S. carrots aren't listed and the

index I used only has them listed for Romania (different type of carrot),

Australia and Canada. I picked Canada which would make sense in terms of

shipping

and has the highest of the indexes to prove a point.)

Anyway, to those of you who DO eat salad, or are looking for a salad dressing

low in calories for marinating/lubing purposes, feel free to check out the

salad dressing. It's great tasting and definitely a better choice than other

great tasting dressings whose fat/calorie content may be significantly more.

I'm averaging about 1,8 pounds per week loss, with the exception of this past

week. A week ago, I had Jessie take out some of my fill. I wasn't able to

keep down ANY protein that was meat based prior to that time UNLESS it was

very late at night--like 9 to 10 p.m. Also, I really wasn't able to keep

anything more than a couple of teaspoons of anything down all day up until early

evening, except for liquids. Using the " no liquid calories " bandster rules, I

was going all day having headaches from lack of eating. I found the no-carb,

50 grams of protein drinks and drank those, but I was always hungry. Then

about every 3rd or 4th day I would " snap " and eat something I shouldn't

eat--like

a scoop of ice cream. I decided that's not how it should work, so I had 1/3

of a cc. removed (I only had 2 cc's total prior). Well, in 6 days I gained

back 4 pounds--I still wasn't able to keep down the good protein, except for

one day at lunch, which was very unusual for me. I was, however, able to eat

more than one bite of bread at a time, which I never good do post-band. I was

making wrong food choices, eating in what I call moderations, on 2 occasions

some bread pudding that had a high calorie and fat content. I only intended

on sampling it--one bite--but I ended up eating about 4 teaspoons of it on

one occasion and slightly less on the other occasion. I also ate about 4-5

fried clam strips, 2 bites of fudge with peanut butter (was that a count towards

protein, LOL) a LARGE pinch of cotton candy, and 3 bites of beef burgundy which

returned to haunt me. Everything else seemed to be the same as prior to

the 1/3 cc removal, except I gained 4 pounds. So yesterday, at my request

because I was worried about making more wrong choices just because I could (!!!)

I

decided to have some added back in. So we added 1/4 cc back. Now I'm

nearly as tight as before and can you believe it--I've lost the 4 pounds. So

now

I'm thinking, surely I didn't lose that 4 pounds in 24 hours---what the heck

had happened? Maybe I was " ok " (though not emotionally, since I was guilt

ridden about the fudge, cotton candy, bread pudding) with the loss of fill, but

I

worried my weight would have crept back up. Prior to the fill I was puking

many times a day, trying to find something to stay down. What stayed down one

day (eggplant and beef) wouldn't stay down the next, even if I ate at the same

time. One change that I am exploring is vegetarian sources of protein rather

than meat based sources. I don't have a problem with beans. I can eat a few

teaspoons of them. I can even eat small amount of chili made with ground

beef and several types of beans. I can also eat small amounts of cereal, but

prior to my saline reduction, I wasn't able to eat any of these things in the

same day. One of my N Y's resolutions is to find more protein options for

myself. I need to find something that works for me instead of finding

something

that has worked for hundreds of bandsters and forcing it on myself. I keep

thinking, " well my bandster buddies can eat 1/2 cup, why can't I? " I have to

shake that mentality. If what stays down is salad with a small amount of

blue cheese, walnuts, and apples, then that is what I'll eat. At least it gives

me some energy, which helps me say no to all the wrong things that I am pretty

certain I can eat. For example, we put candy canes on the tree this year.

Bet I could eat one, but why would I want to? I haven't yet. I'd rather stick

with the salad, the beans, the cereal, the soups that I know I can keep down,

and I'm going to try some turkey and beef lunch meats because I think I might

have a better chance of keeping those down--at this time--than I do with

regular turkey breast or roast, you know?

Anyway, I know I'm not the only one out there with these struggles. At least

now that I have just under 2 ccs back in my band, I have my " emotional safety

net " back. I know I can count on my band to keep me from overeating; I have

to teach my band to count on me to feed it the right foods.

I would love to see what the diet of a bandster in an average day looks like.

I have been banded 3 1/2 months and still struggle with 'good band foods'.

Thanks in advance!

If you use Fitday (the purchased executable, not just online) I can

send you a backup of my diary. I have been banded since 11-10 and have

kept fitday diaries since going to mushies (around Thanksgiving). I'm

averaging 1100 calories a day, have had no fills, and am just starting

to think I'll need one later this month.
