I did when I upped from 50 mgs to 75 mgs. Dr. Brownstein told me to take a cup of Epsom Salts & 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide and take a bath in it. I was also to sponge it on my body (face) before getting in. It helped my face a lot. I had a few minor outbreaks but not a lot after. It is toxins being release more than likely.

breaking out and iodine?

Does anyone else break out in zits when taking iodine? And if so does this go away? Thanks steph

That's the first indication I'm going hypER thyroid again is a

break-out. When I'm stabilized, no zits. When I'm hypO, skin is dry.

Iodine is feeding the thyroid so I would think this might mean you're

pushing out a little more hormone maybe then you need temporarily and

when it stabilizes I would expect it to go away. Will have to try the

epsom salt/H2O2 idea!

I don't have a thyroid so that's not it for me.

Just wondering, how do you know that you don't have any thyroid tissue

anywhere in your body? Have you had a full body scan? I was told I

had no thyroid also, but they were wrong. It took us 8 years to

figure that one out! It happens apparently, much more often than we

are usually led to believe.

What happened to your thyroid?

Upping my dose really makes it worse until my thyroid has a chance to take a breather. I also think it's case of going slightly hyper (I get more restless sleep too) maybe because the enlarged thyroid breaking up. Flechas said that could happen has it produces more hormone.Flechas doesn't think these little zits are toxins being released but more the iodine reacting in the skin.He didn't say what it was reacting with or why this happend.I'll try the H2O2 also. Sounds good.I'm also contemplating using my insulin needle to shoot a teeny drip of b-12 into the inflamed area. It's a powerful anti-inflammatory so might work quite well. Soon as I get another round of these breakouts I'll report back on this one. Right now I've backed down on iodine so my skin is getting clearer.Lynn

Hey Lynn,

you could try Black Walnut tincture - either the hulls or bark. As I

mentioned in a previous post, Black Walnut (BW) has a balancing effect

on the thyroid, as well as being helpful for " acne " , or breakouts on

the zygomatic arch (upper cheek).

The beautiful thing about applying the " crude " drug action of a whole

herb is that Mother Nature knows something about balance, and often

there are synergistic aspects which provide regulatory activity.

What I mean is that Black Walnut has the intelligence of balancing the

thyroid AND clearing the skin AT THE SAME TIME, while elemental iodine

and iodide are all alone without the balancing synergistic effects of

the other " active ingredients " of the whole, crude herb. Iodine alone

can only do part of the job, so some aspects slip through.

I think this is why some on the list may find themselves having to

apply increasingly complicated supplement protocols.

Tinctures used in this manner can be applied in low doses - 3-5 DROPS

(NOT DROPPERFULS) 3 times a day. Think of it like the BW is teaching

your body what a balanced thyroid is, on more levels that we can

possibly discern.

Pretty cool. Herbs rock!

Hi Carol,

Thanks for your reply. If you don't mind, could you describe what

happened? How much BW were you using & how often, and what symptoms

got aggravated?

I wish to learn how to help folks with these remedies, and knowing the

particulars helps me to understand which individuals may have

unexpected or unpleasant reactions to them. This helps me to choose

remedies with greater accuracy. :)

Thanks in advances,

Sheila

My husband did. I asked Dr. Fechas' office about this and they said it

was a common reaction. They recommended cutting back to 1 iodoral per day

until it goes away and then work back up.

Wow, what a story! Glad you're doing okay now. When was your last

scan? I had RAI and was told I had no thyroid repeatedly. Was

tested, no thyroid a couple of times. Now lucky me- guess what, my

thyroid is actually coming back. Now I'm told this happens in as much

as 30% of RAI patients. Great. Now I'm pretty much back to square

one with the Graves as the antibodies of course didn't go away.

I had RAI ablation. Wanted to avoid another surgery. If I had it to

do over again, I never would have taken those stupid pills. They

never even did any antibody tests on me, so who knows what was really

going on at the time. Doc said it wasn't necessary and I was stupid

enough to believe him. I was uninformed and desperate. It was a long

time ago. I am no better now than I was then, except that now I know

better. Our doc even sent me to Mayo's to try to get everything

straight because of the rollercoastering. That was a joke! He told

me over and over " you have no thyroid " . Told me " you have something

else going on but I'm not going to discuss that with you at this time.

Your doc will have to make another appt and it'll be about a 6 month

to a year wait. " Then the " God-Doctor " held a 45 minute magazine

interview over the phone about how great he was, while I sat on the

exam table and listened to him, waiting to finish my appt. My hubby

was so mad I think he wanted to pop the guy in the nose!

I went from 150 or 175 mcg's (can't remember right now which) to now

only 1/2 a 75 mcg tablet daily along with cytomel, and had a storm

post surgery in July. As a result I have restricted iodine in my food

and am feeling MUCH better- no wild swings like before, or at least

not nearly so bad as before. I still feel like crap a lot of the

time, but it's better. I had a MRI done on my neck for the ruptured

discs I have there. The Radiologist took me thru the findings and

pictures and got to my lower neck and pointed out my " completely

normal thyroid tissue, so that looks great. " I then told him I had

RAI ablation 6 (at the time) yrs ago and he said, " oh really " then I

watched him change his notes to read " no thyroid tissue visible " . My

TPOabs are back up again and new doc is great but doesn't really want

to pursue antibodies either, so who knows what's going on now.

hashi's thyroiditis going to burn me out permanently? Maybe. Grave's

back? probably. Either way he figures just treating the symnptoms

should keep me happy. He's at least trying tho...

Autoimmune thyroid disease is miserable. Nobody wants to treat the

root of the disease which is autoimmune. Caused by iodine levels some

would argue- I don't know, I just know that killing my thyroid is not

the answer to an autoimmune problem. Now my thyroid is coming back

and I still have autoimmune issues. It's like treading water in the

rough ocean during a storm. The water keeps going over your head.

You get just enough air in tiny gasps to keep yourself alive, but you

are left coughing and sputtering and struggling the entire time while

praying for your life.

I am not a moderator here, but is sure looks to me like you are
