Guest guest
We all know this guy and he has one of the best dairy’s in the country. We also know that he tests his milk for e-coli and there are no incidents of any e-coli in his milk ever, including now and has always tested free of it. They are, as usual trying to blame raw milk on something that it has nothing to do with and claiming it is not the spinach e-coli outbreak because it is another strain. Trust me, this is another media hype and he says he will be suing the state. He has been here in Florida numerous times speaking and he was here to help one of our farmers who the state was harassing. He posts his tests on his website so he hides nothing from the public. Sorry, if I seem a little out of sorts over this but we have seem this kind of thing so many times. It’s once again the big boys trying to crush the small farmer and the public who want choices in our food. Those of us who eat that way see this all the time. Their products have not tested positive for any pathogens. http://www.organicpastures.com/ Sharon > > As I know, from the recent " debates " in here, that some of you > drink raw milk, I thought you might like to know about this: > > http://www.slashfood.com/2006/09/24/raw-milk-recalled/ > > Just the messenger. Guest guest
There seems to be a problem with a whole chunk of a Calif. valley ... they keep getting eColi problems (this isn't the first year it's happened, and it's not just spinach). So far it doesn't seem that they know where it is coming from. The irrigation water, maybe? Calif. is a very dry state most of the year, so all the crops are irrigated. Anyway, the " bad " eColi is mainly from grain-fed cows. If cows get too much grain, they get that strain of eColi. If you put them back on a grass diet, it goes away. Unfortunately, most cows these days are fed lots and lots of cheap, government-subsidized corn. I'm guessing their poop gets into the water supply, which gets put on crops (and fed to organic cows). All of which is a good argument for buying local when you can. We get most of our produce from a mini-farm down the road, and more and more of our meat products too. If I drank milk I'd get my own goat (a small milk goat is about the size of a dog, and quieter, and gives a gallon a day: and fresh goat milk tastes like cow milk, unlike the stuff at the stores). Also, they mow your lawn for free. -- Heidi wrote: > As I know, from the recent " debates " in here, that some of you > drink raw milk, I thought you might like to know about this: > > http://www.slashfood.com/2006/09/24/raw-milk-recalled/ > > Just the messenger. Guest guest
You are sooo right on the grain fed cows having the e-coli. Don’t you find it funny that they are going after the grassfed cows raw milk? I guess that’s not so funny is it? That’s the government for you. Allyn PRIORITY INVESTMENTS N' KOLLATERAL,INC. Guest guest
Cows, like people, do best on a healthy diet. Cows were never designed to eat lots of corn. Cows are ruminants who eat grass. When cows eat lots of corn, they get the wrong bacteria growing in their gut (same as people do!). So cows on a high grain diet get lots of antibiotics, which kills off both the good gut floras and the bad ones. And antibiotics also encourage the growth of antibiotic resistant strains of E.coli and other bacteria. Or maybe from the sanitation of those picking it? When hepatitis was spread in Michigan schools, from strawberries from Mexico, that's what they referred to as the cause. Not sure why they said washing it wouldn't help. Mercola said that according to one study, if you spray your produce with Vinegar and with Hydrogen peroxide, the order doesn't matter, just don't mix them but spray separately, then rinse the produce it eliminates more bacteria and persticide than any other method. Also, wasn't it the stuff in the bag that's " Triple Washed " with chlorine bleach? I've wondered if that stuff is healthy anyway. Just because it says it's clean and sanitary doesn't make it so. There is a good source of ultraviolet outside of most houses. I wonder when we'll end up with little UV bulbs for our produce. Iodine water would probably work very well also. 2 birds with one stone: you get more iodine AND you kill the baddies in the produce! In some parts of the world it is routine to add a couple drops of iodine to suspect water. I think I'd trust the iodine more than chlorine (I think humans are more adapted to iodine for some reason: seawater and seaweed maybe: there is no natural source of high chlorine that I know of?). Vinegar does work very well too. H202 kills some other bacteria, but most of the baddies are acid intolerant. And vinegar does double duty: it makes your salad taste good! -- Heidi
Guest guest
We have gotten emails from Organic Pastures and they have settled with the state on their defamation law suit and the test will be finalized shortly. They have found no e-coli in the milk, stools or anything in the raw milk so far. The milk will also be back on the shelves within four days. I guess they are working with the state to get this resolved. Of the four children they say got it from milk, two were very mild and did not even go to the hospital. The third is in the hospital and doing well and they say it is from the spinach. The four is very ill but they are unsure of the source. Just an update on this.
