Guest guest
Dr. Brownstein is my doctor and I would not recommend doing a phone consult with him. I remember my first one after having seen him in the office and he was so hard to talk to. When he does not know you well I find that he is very shy and answers in one word or short sentence answers and does not elaborate. Due to legal issues he will not be able to give you any advice specific to your condition w/o being a patient. I tried this before seeing him because I had increasing cancer markers and my appt was 6 mos away. Hope that helps! Have you tried the ACAM.org website? They are good docs. They will more than likely be that expensive too. I paid $300 (actually my insurance did) for a consultation with an endo at the Univ of MI and it was crap. I paid $350 for Dr. Brownstein and it was well worth it but no insurance. I would have mortgaged my house to see Dr. B I was that desperate. Brownstien and Rind do phone sessions. Are these phone sessions successful?Has anyone here done phone consults? Do you have information you feel would be helpful?I appreciate any thoughtsWarmlyMeg Grosswendt
Guest guest
Hi, Meg, Have you done saliva tests? Rather than spend $$$ on a drs visit, I would recommend doing saliva tests first, then YOU'LL have a better idea of what you're dealing with & which direction to go with a dr. You may already know this, but you can order your own though canaryclub.org, or if you want the expanded version of the Diagnos-Techs saliva test (which includes gluten intolerance), you could order that through Dr. Mark at his aptly named website, www.drmarkrhodes.com. If you are already armed with info, I agree with that acam.org is a good resource. But I would call/e-mail first before spending $$$. That will give you a better idea of what their approach is. Best of luck! Warmly, > > Brownstien and Rind do phone sessions. > Are these phone sessions successful? > > Has anyone here done phone consults? Guest guest
Yes thanks for adding that . I would definitely ask them if they use Iodine, dx hypo T by clinical symptoms or labs, use BHRT as those are the main things. Many of them have websites that are listed on the ACAM website so you can get a pretty good idea of their ways in practicing. Guest guest
Hi Meg, Do you belong to the NY thyroid group? If not, here's a link to the New York Thyroid group. Maybe someone can recommend a dr for you to go to. New_York_Thyroid_Groups/ Good luck and keep us posted! Guest guest
I have done phone consults with Dr's. They are not usually as good as in person visits but they work OK. They are also not covered by insurance like in person visits. I have talked to Dr. Brownstein on the phone and I think he is fine on the phone. Guest guest
I have Hashi's/adrenal fatigue... looked for a doctor from ACAM that had 10 different specialties incl HRT. I called explaining that I was hypoT & asked if doc works with Armour (he does). However I found him to be unknowledgable about thyroid antibodies, & adrenal issues, testing, nutritional analysis or supplementation. He's been unwilling to learn. He favorite work is treatement with sex hormones. Anyway, would like to come up with a list of probing questions before the docs get my money. Amy ladybugsandbees wrote: Yes thanks for adding that . Guest guest
1. What tests do you generally run to determine the status of your patients? 2. What do you consider to be an indicator of hypoT? 3. Is TSH important? 4. What role does iodine play in your treatment? 5. Do you dose thyroid based on labs or symptoms? Not sure what to aske for Adrenals - since it sounds like you did ask something. Re: Re: Looking for a Dr..... Guest guest
This is really good! Do you think I should also ask about vit/mineral testing, heavy metals? The doc I am seeing seems to be unconcerned with all that. He does use armour but says 1 grain is all most people ever need. This conflicts with most info I read... This REALLY helps! Thank you! Amy JD wrote: I'd ask the following on the phone before I even went in, in order to not waste my time or the doc's in case s/he doesn't do what I need: 1. Do you prescribe Armour Thyroid in the case of hypothyroid? 2. Do you determine hypothyroid by both symptoms and testing? 3. If a patient is hypothyroid and you are going to prescribe Armour, do you first check the patient's Adrenal function? 4. Do you test for Thyroid Antibodies? 5. Do you test Free T4 and Free T3 thyroid hormones? 6. Do you treat Adrenals with Hydrocortone or Isocort if needed? 7. Do you prescribe bioidentical hormones for low sex hormones if needed? 8. Do you take my type of insurance? If I get a yes to all of the above, then when I go in I also ask for a complete CBC and a complete Metabolic Panel including Ferritin levels for sure. > Re: Re: Looking for a Dr..... > > > I have Hashi's/adrenal fatigue... looked for a > doctor from ACAM that had 10 different specialties > incl HRT. Guest guest
I wouldn't go back to this silly doc, but let him know he needs to get some more education. GraciaThis is really good! Guest guest
I don't plan to go back... although I'm wondering if I'll have a battle getting the last saliva tests from him if I don't. I've got an appt with a new doc on Monday... so this list of questions was so helpful. I would like to ask what limits he places on Armour dosing. What do you think of that? Is that OK to ask? I don't want to sound impertinent ... but I want to know NOW, not later. Amy Gracia wrote: I wouldn't go back to this silly doc, but let him know he needs to get some more education.
