I'm just a person that has to " push the envelope " once in awhile - then I scare myself and I'm good.<< Cheating and being good are two concepts you have to get past. This is mot about being a naughty child, it's about taking charge of your life and making a commitment to acting like a grown up. You can keep " scaring yourself " and seeing how close you can get to the brink but every time you eat something that hurts, you're one step closer to losing your band. (I speak from experience.) Try pausing a moment and asking yourself " What would an intelligent person do? What would a grown up do? " (I'd be very surprised if the answer is " eat something that hurts " .) (I speak from experience.) What do you mean?<< I mean that every time you eat something that hurts, you are stretching the stoma and if you keep doing that eventually it will not rebound and it will stay stretched. That's what's often called a " slipped " band, though it is more accurately called a prolapse. (Or you can get esophageal stretching and/or erosion which is even less fun.) A prolapse will cause acid reflux and the stoma can slip up through the diaphragm to form a hiatal hernia. This is not a pleasant experience. Sometimes taking the entire fill out of the band for weeks or months can solve the problem. Otherwise the band comes out. I had a prolapse, primarily caused by a too tight band and a stubborn insistence on " testing the limits " . Fortunately after having the band out for six months I was able to get a new one. Final score: Many months of pain from the prolapse 2 additional surgeries 45 pounds regained Band 1 Sharon 0 That's what I mean.
Guest guest
I guess I'm done testing the limits.... Thank you for letting me know that it is more than just 'childish' behavior...it is medically dangerous. cindy > > > You can keep " scaring yourself " and seeing how close you can get to > the > > brink but every time you eat something that hurts, you're one step > > closer to losing your band. Guest guest
Hi , congratulations!!! what you describe as food getting temporarily stuck and then you try to burp it up is a PB!!!!! you've joined the club. one of PB's friends is mr. Slimey. he is not welcome in my house, but occasionally comes for a visit anyway, uninvited. fortunately, not for some time now. george > > > > > > > > > >Well, all your advice is very good and justifies some of my good > > >behaviors. Guest guest
Diane, have you been successful in balancing? LOL. isn't this one of those " i know i shouldn't do this, but i'm going to do it anyway " ? that's what i call it. LOL Balancing. that's a good one. george p.s. i think it might be a good idea if we all just came clean with our own little tricks. it might open up a new clean slate for us to restart from. p.p.s. the things we do in private when noone is looking is the kind of thing we need to tame. however, going to MCD and downing their high calorie burgers, etc, is a test that doesn't make sense. please don't enter (the gates to hell) mac donalds. > >I have never PB'd (if that means vomit) but I have had a couple of > >cases of what I call " backwash " where the food gets temporarily stuck > >and I try to burp and I feel the food in the bottom of my throat. > > > //
Guest guest
, i beg to differ with you. your response to that morsel was brilliant. throwing it away was a shift in paradym that will point you in the right direction. good going. george > > > > > Although an MCD cheeseburger hurts going down - I can't resist > > > trying. Guest guest
, you're doing a wonderful job. you know, sometimes even when the spirit is strong, the flesh is sometimes weak. we have years of engrained bad habits to overcome and you sound like you are methodically eradicating old bad behavior piece by piece. keep up the good work and the inspiration you provide by sharing how you're doing on your journey. thank you. george p.s. how do you get those grandchildren? i'd like to share your method with my kids, already. > > > > > Unfortunately, I have to have things in my house for my 3 > > > granddaughters who live next door. Guest guest
well, george, words are my business...so i use them to my advantage!!! but i am really trying to limit the times i need to balance.... most of my tricks are for my benefit -- eg the telling myself that bread wont go thru the band. if i am going to have something that is maybe not the best choice (how ddo you like those words>???) then i tell myself that i will only do it today and not for a number of days or weeks afterwards. that is what i mean also by balancing!!! if i keep losing weight at a slow but steady clip i consider myself a successful balancer....:-) At 08:49 AM 10/27/2007, you wrote: >Diane, > >have you been successful in balancing? Guest guest
WHOO HOO ! - Now I belong ! : ) I thought PB was a " head-in-the- toilet-vomit session. I think I've met Mr. Slimey and if it was him, I definitely don't like him. Once I got stuck my nose starting running, I started salivating and mucus built up in the back of my throat (is this gross or what?). Was that Mr. Slimey? He is definitely NOT welcome in my house. > > > > > > > > > > > > > >Well, all your advice is very good and justifies some of my good > > > >behaviors.
