Guest guest Posted April 5, 2005 Report Share Posted April 5, 2005 As far as I'm concerned, people can call themselves whatever they want, and use whatever " nickname " or other ID they want. I also have no objection to people using whatever credentials or other means of identification they want. Many of us do it by listing when we were banded, how much we've lost, etc, which presumably gives some amount of credibility for what we say. I've worked in a university setting for 45 years, and know what most of you know....that having a PhD, an MD, or anything else doesn't prove a whole lot about what someone really knows, how smart they are, or what their skills are. Many of us have had professors with PhD's who couldn't teach worth a darn, or for that matter didn't know as much about areas of their discipline as we students did. Remember, this is the internet. Anyone can say they're anything they want. For all anyone knows (except those who've met me, and those who believe what I have on my website, which is pretty revealing in various ways), I'm really an 18 year old anorexic female who is just pretending to be a bandster for the fun of it. (for the FUN of it??) Anyway, we should evaluate what others say based on what they say, how they say it, and so forth. Personally, I don't put much stock in the comments of those who are hostile, nasty, rude, and so forth.
