Guest guest
No you do not keep the first urine of the morning. You keep the first void after taking the 50 mgs Iodoral and finish up by collecting the first urine of the next day. So if you get up at 6 am and urinate then take the iodine at 6:30 and urinate again at 6:45 you would collect that urine until you get up the next morning and urinate again (24 hours later). Guest guest
Thanks . I reread the instructions and you use the first void for the spot test and then discard. I did not read carefully enough the first time.I have just been rereading emails of side effects of the loading test. As I seem to get hyper with Iodoral if I take more than 1...it builds up, I am somewhat concerned about the test and taking 4 Iodoral. If I do anything to stimulate the thyroid then I am temporarily hyperT with trouble sleeping etc. Otherwise thyroid is good or even on low side in my opinion. TSH has been 2-3 of late but coming down and free T3 has stayed above mid range. From your knowledge of experiences of others, am I risking a serious reaction that is not self-limiting? I did a search but don't see a lot of lasting problems from the test. I have been taking one Iodoral and off and on more for the past year. Many thanks again, AnnOn 25-Nov-07, at 11:11 PM, ladybugsandbees wrote:No you do not keep the first urine of the morning. Guest guest
IMO hyperthyroid is not a thyroid gland that is misbehaving and working too well. Hyperthyroid is a gland starving for iodine and trying to capture it. Enough iodine calms thyroid gland and iodine has been used in the past as a treatment for hyper. I think your reaction means that your body really needs it, and needs more than one tab. Gracia hyper/hypo Thanks . Guest guest
Ann, the moderator on the Hormones Naturally forum has his patients that do the loading test take 1/2 Iodoral daily beginning AFTER the last void of the test until the results come back or until the patient feels comfortable with stopping altogether. I think this is supposed to help the body some with reactions to 50 mg down to nothing. If you have some extra Iodoral you might try that approach. Then start on 1/2 mg after the last void to keep the body supplied with iodine right? So his method requires ordering extra iodine prior to the test as the test only comes with 50mgs. Guest guest
Are you the one that Lynn F sent to talk to me about the loading test. If you are then please e-mail me off list - ladybugsandbees@... so we can talk about this. If you remember I gave you instructions on what to do when you send the test in to Dr. F's office and how to deal with it. Guest guest
I don't think so Gracia as I am so hyper that I can't sleep. I have tried increasing but to no avail. I would expect my TSH to be higher if I was hyperT. Thanks for the idea anyway. It will be interesting to see what reactions I have when I take 4 Iodoral for the test. Guest guest
Yes, you are right. I was picturing it on a scale with values like .02 at the top and going down from there. Guest guest
I am sorry you are feeling badly--I have been that way too--felt like a cat on a hot tin roof. I would suspect weak adrenals then. Gracia I don't think so Gracia as I am so hyper that I can't sleep. I have tried increasing but to no avail. I would expect my TSH to be higher if I was hyperT. Guest guest
Yes, he posts on another list I'm on and is quite rude and consdescending. He likes to leave the impression that he's some medical professional and has lots of experience, but he spends all day posting on many groups. I and others have been on his own group and what most people on there don't realize is that it is very one-sided. Anyone daring to post something contrary to what Pat's dogma is are either put on moderate status, or their posts are deleted altogether, so it appears that everyone is in agreement there, which is an illusion. Yes, he's someone to steer clear of. On the internet it's easy to appear to be a medical professional even if one isn't. He envisions himself as the all-knowing male that can solve all the problems of us poor, stupid females. Some of his archived posts in other groups show his true personality, as does the private emails many have received from him. He's very clever at using parts of studies out of context and leaving important things out to support his positions. > > > > > Now I know who he is. Guest guest
Hi all, From what I understand, Pat is a semi-retired doctor. Zoe appeared to like what Pat had to say at one time. Check out messages #21 " an excellent book review of Brownstein's book by Pat " , and #75. Pat seemed like a nice, caring person when I was in that group (o:. ~ > > I agree that caution is needed. He / She (never identifies themselves) has never told us of their credentials either. Mentions patients and in some cases is informed and in others seems a little off base. I was a member for a while but didn't like the secrecy of who they were and for that reason unsubbed. > > > Re: Re: Iodine test questions > > > > > Now I know who he is.
