Guest guest
That's something I'm going to look into for my own palpitations. I've been on 4 Iodoral per day and 60 mg Armour Thyroid for about 2 months. I've been having lots of irregular heart beats, and was wondering if I need to cut down on the Iodoral. But now that you mention it, they were really bad yesterday, and I'd taken 2 teasp. of the Cod Liver Oil the night before. Debby Cod Liver Oil + Iodine = Palpitations? I've noticed each time I have taken only one(recommendation is for three) on that evening atbedtime I had mild palpitations. When I stoppedtaking the cod liver oil gel, the palpitation atbedtime stopped. I waited approximately one weekbefore trying it again and took the gel earlier in theday as well. That evening again, palpitations.I did not introduce anything else into my body andthat is why I think the palpitation and cod liver oilare related.Does anyone have any ideas relating to why cod liveroil may interact with iodine, or why it might causepalpitation?Thanks,Abbe__________________________________________________

Vit D is a hormone precursor. I'm not sure which hormones, or how, yet. Dr. Weil and others are recommending 1000 iu Vit D, up from the previous 400 iu. Some people are taking even more, but you're not likely to get up even 1000 iu Vit D with normal amounts of cod liver oil. I suspect that the next thing in supplement groups will will be to explore the point at which Vit D can become too much for the individual, and what the symptoms of that are. Vitamin A is known to be toxic at high levels taken longer term, but even short term over 50,000-100,000 iu can be toxic. One of the symptoms of too much Vit A is unusual hair loss. Normal supplementation of Vit A is about 5000-8000 iu, maybe up to 25,000 iu in persons who seem to need more. So yeah, it's not inconceivable to me that iodine and Vit A + D could potentiate each other's effects, all encouraging each other a bit. Speculation on my part. Guest guest
I never take any fish oil in capsules. It might be rancid. I have no idea if your reaction is to the poil, or because it is going rancid. I have no problem taking a tablespoon of Carlson's Cod liver oil each day. Guest guest
-Abbe, Are you on thyroid meds? I know it doesn't always help to hear what's working for someone else but right now I'm doing 2 TBSPs of high vit cod liver oil plus 50mgs of iodine. So far everything is perfect (except for pesky constipation but it's slowly getting better). I dropped my armour thyroid because it felt too much with the iodine and I was only on 1.5 grains/day. My night time irregular beats have gone totally away. I wonder what the heck vit D or A does with iodine and thyroid???? Prehaps you need to increase very slowly. Yes, back on replacement for about two months and no problem up to the point I took cod liver oil, that is why I am so convinced that is what caused the palpitations. I did not take any cod liver oil yesterday and no palpitations. Previously, I mentioned palpitations as though I was only having them at bedtime but it is only that is when I noticed them as much or they became troubling. > > I know it doesn't always help to hear what's working > for someone else > but right now I'm doing 2 TBSPs of high vit cod > liver oil plus 50mgs > of iodine. Guest guest
Maybe you had a thyroid dump from getting some Vitamin A? Here's some info on the importance of Vitamin A to the thyroid. It also helps the thyroid gland use the iodine: Vitamin A influences thyroid function http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0860/is_n12_v51/ai_8199677 > Yes, back on replacement for about two months and no > problem up to the point I took cod liver oil, that is > why I am so convinced that is what caused the > palpitations. Guest guest
That is so interesting, , thank you. I wasn't at all aware of that connection. I'm very curious to hear from Abbe and whether he thinks that might be what happened? Sharon > Maybe you had a thyroid dump from getting some Vitamin A?
