Guest guest
Lynn, based on your visit to Dr. Flechas, does he not prescribe any thyroid meds? Only Iodoral? Could it be that those of you on this site getting low loading results the second time around are inhibiting the iodoral uptake by being on thyroid meds? I really am confused on this subject. The books can only take me so far in the facts, its the real life experiences I greatly appreciate in all the groups messages. If the thyroid meds are inhibiting the uptake (and allegedly, on thyroid meds the thyroid is " turned off " at least on adequate dosages) that would cause more to be excreted. Actually, I hadn't thought of it before, but Dr. Derry said when one was on thyroid meds, the thyroid was " turned off. " I don't know if he meant if one was on enough to suppress the TSH, or if anyone on thyroid meds isn't not seeing it go to their thyroid. It would seem to me, those with a suppressed TSH would not absorb any iodine in their thyroid. Those on lower doses might. That may mean, unless someone actually does decrease or stop their intake of thyroid hormone, they will never know whether taking iodine will allow a reduction or elimination of their thyroid meds. According to Derry, when starting iodine (he usually recommended one of two drops of Lugol's which would be 6-12.5 mg of iodine) the thyroid soaks up all the available iodine for about two weeks. Then it allows it to go other places it's needed for immune or other purposes. I don't know if one stays on thyroid meds if their thyroid will ever become " saturated. " One posting on this group mentioned that some doctor thinks that taking thyroid hormone actually causes iodine depletion which is why they should take extra iodine. Yes it sounded like it. My mother is on 2 grains/day and he's going to have her slowly taper off over the next 6 months as she loads with more iodine. Could it be that those of you on this > site getting low loading results the second time around are > inhibiting the iodoral uptake by being on thyroid meds? I was prescribed thyroid this summer and it certainly appears to be what brought back my fibrocystic breasts. The month after I started thyroid was the first fibrocystic breast pain I've had in along time. I fit the profile he mentioned. I really am > confused on this subject. The books can only take me so far in the > facts, its the real life experiences I greatly appreciate in all the > groups messages. I don't know where you live but if it's close enough to see him I would recommend it. I live in Atlanta so it was a 3 hour drive for us. He's not expensive.....my mom paid cash for her visit. I think it was $280 for 1 1/2 hours. He ran her lab test through quest so Medicare will pick up on those. He also takes the big three insurance plans....blue cross, united health and one ohter???? I'll be going to see him soon also so can ask more questions. Lynn
Guest guest
That's great news . Did you do an iodine loading test at any point before starting? Re: Saw Dr. Flechas yesterday and his comments on iodine I told Dr. Flechas that I am on 125mg of Levoxyl and he told me as I start the 100mg of Iodinethat I should be aware of hyper symptoms since he believes that I would start needing less hormoneduring the 30 days I am on this high dose of Iodine. I am 10 days into it and do not notice anyhyper symptoms, unfortunately. I have noticed sharp magnesium deficiency symptoms in the last week; very sore neck for noreason, constipation and muscle spasm in in calf muscles and sleep disturbances. This goes alongwith the thought that iodine increases the cells absorption of mag and perhaps the need isgreater.... the point is, this seems to be a sign that my body is finally absorbing the iodine. --- Skipper Beers <lsb149hotmail> wrote:> >From: "kathleen_nick42" <hanlonkearthlink (DOT) net>> > >Lynn, based on your visit to Dr. Flechas, does he not prescribe any> >thyroid meds? Guest guest
Lynn, I actually drive an hour to see a doc in Asheville who works with dr. flechas urine test. That is how I heard of him. I'm on a low dose of Armour, 45mg/day, 15 mcg Cytomel and have hopes of reducing that to nill. I'm slowly introducing Iodoral to my system, currently at 1 1/2 tab in my 2nd week. Monitoring any changes, like , I had to increase my Mg, so maybe I too am utilizing what Iodoral is going in my body. Some days I found myself needing additional potassium iodide that helped with leg cramps. Where is there a good link or source for finding out more on the Iodoral/thyroid med connection........anyone? Thank you Kathleen > > > Lynn, based on your visit to Dr. Flechas, does he not prescribe any > > thyroid meds? Only Iodoral? > > Yes it sounded like it.
