Guest guest
I don't believe for one second that isocort is a standardized dose, but others will contradict me. For many, isocort is just too lite. cortef is made in a lab, but it is a bio-identical med. anyway you already have taken cortef right? just not the right dose. Gracia I'm researching Isocort and Cortef and wonder what the pros and cons might be? Is hydrocortisone synthetic or natural (I've seen conflicting descriptions)? Isocort seems nice that it is natural and a standardized 2.5mg dose - but are there any drawbacks to it? Thanks much, Sharon No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. I think it's Dr. Lowe that says it's a 2.5 standardized dose. Why do you disagree with the assessment? It's not because you didn't feel well on it alone, I hope? If so, do you happen to be allergic to Echinacea? http://www.valleyskeptic.com/echinacea1.html " DR. RAYMOND MULLINS, an allergist in private practice at the Medical Centre in Deakin, Australia, identified 24 cases in which echinacea was found to precipitate asthma attacks, hives or potentially fatal anaphylactic reactions. Mullins noted that the coneflower plant that echinacea is derived from is closely related to ragweed, which is the leading cause of allergic rhinitis, or hay fever. Guest guest
Hi Gracia, Yes, I've taken Cortef on the wrong dose! I'm just thinking through my options depending on my lab results next week. I don't know about the standardization issue for Isocort...but if it really were standardized would that change your mind? Also I know the dose is low but I could just double up. It just seems like a decent option where I don't have to find a new doctor to do a script. Yes? Or not? Thanks, Sharon > I don't believe for one second that isocort is a standardized dose, but others will contradict me. Guest guest
Sharon, my ND called Bezweckian directly (at my request), and was told that each pellet of Isocort contains 2.54 mg. of hydrocortisone. They do not put that on the label, or else it would need to be rx only. They will tell any practitioner that calls their office and asks. Guest guest
hi Skipper I have never taken Isocort! I might have tried it had I known about it a few years ago. I base my conclusions on how well it has worked for peeps on the thyroid lists. For most it is too lite. Gracia >From: "sharflin" <sharflincomcast (DOT) net>> > I'm researching Isocort and Cortef and wonder what the pros and>cons> > might be? I assume they simply add the hydrocortisone to the Isocort. Anyways, hydrocortisone is a bio-identical hormone. Many people greatly improve with Isocort. I don't know why Gracia had a bad experience with it, but I've talked to several people who found it helpful.Skipper__________________________________________________________Search from any web page with powerful protection. Guest guest
sure, whatever works I say. I order cortef from England, no Rx needed, b/c it's cheaper even with my insurance! It's so darn cheap but shipping is $15. Um about the isocort, the prob I have with it is that it doesn't do that much after a while. I wonder if Drenamin from SP would work as well? gracia Hi Gracia, Yes, I've taken Cortef on the wrong dose!I'm just thinking through my options depending on my lab results next week. If you're taking 8 pellets, which gives people the same dose of HC you are taking, why would that be? Maybe some people notice a stimulating effect from it (it has more than just HC) and that's what wears off, but the HC function is the same? Guest guest
This is my experience. I started on isocort and it worked really well for about a bottles worth (maybe 3 weeks or so). Then all the symptoms came back (darn, I liked when my dark circles under my eyes went away but they came back). I tried delta and though it is a time release pill, after 2 weeks I started feeling really bad and still couldn't up the dose to 2 1/2 grains. Now I'm back on isocort (3rd bottle) until I can order some cortef. I liked the idea of only having to take 1 pill a day but from all I've read, maybe the 4 doses a day is best for me. Guest guest
arrrgggghhh therein lies the rub. the peeps on the lists take 8 pellets but don't get the same results as with cortef or delta. Isocort helps in the beginning, but then the effects seem to fade. Gracia >From: "Gracia" <circe@...>> sure, whatever works I say. Guest guest
This exchange is fascinating - " Who Knew? " is all I can say! Thanks Gracia, Skipper & others! Since I'm now questioning the Isocort, I rumaged around and found a stash of Cortef. A bird in the hand so to speak... I started getting a cold yesterday and thought it was an appropriate time to take some as my adrenals are still stressed, I'm off iodine for the past week, and I'm feeling hyperT (but that my be a disguised hypoT). It is all a bit confusing really. I can't recall - dose Cortef kick in immediately or does it take a few weeks? Thanks all again, Sharon > arrrgggghhh > therein lies the rub. > the peeps on the lists take 8 pellets but don't get the same results as with cortef or delta. Guest guest
Sharon, How much cortef are you on? Are you on thyroid meds too? I'm also HypoT, on thyroid meds and HC. And now learning about the importance of iodine..... SAMMIEsharflin <sharflin@...> wrote: This exchange is fascinating - "Who Knew?" is all I can say! Thanks Gracia, Skipper & others! I could tell from the first dose it was something I needed. For others, it takes a couple weeks to notice. You should take 4 divided doses of it. Do not take all at once.
