Guest guest
I finally found the Abraham quote I was looking for: "No inorganic iodine/iodide was found in feces, only the organic form, amiodarone; whereas only inorganic iodide was excreted in urine." Rebuttal to Gaby editorial on iodine (October 2005) In other words, inorganic iodide is excreted only in the urine. Thus, it goes through the kidney for excretion. Only the toxic organic drug form of iodine (amiodarone) was found in the feces. I would love to read the study he references for this quote, but it is in French. If we have any fluent French readers on this group, the study is by Broekhuysen, J, et al, 1969. The Iodine Loading Test depends on the measurement of urine, and Gaby challenged the validity of Abraham's test on the issue of feces vs urine excretion of iodine. Alan Gaby editorial on iodine (Aug/Sept 2005) Abraham countered Gaby's challenge with a discussion including the above quote. However, the iodine still has to enter the intestines for absorption initially. So the question remains: What is the effect of the iodine on the bacteria, etc., in the intestines? Does it tend to kill certain things more than others? How does it tend to affect the balance of our intestinal flora? Zoe

Guest guest
Nieema, The reference info on the French article Abraham talked about is here: Research on the benzofuran series. XXXVII. Comparative study of transit and metabolism of amiodarone in different species of an Since I haven't read anything on the article except for the brief paragraph Abraham wrote, I don't know if it would be worth the effort of translating the whole article or not -- it's 19 pages long. Still, since it is from 1969 and the only thing Abraham quotes on this urine/feces thing, it may be a significant study. Guest guest
Steph, could you please say specifically what the article said. It may contribute to our collective understanding of iodine and digestion, constipation, diarrhea, etc. Zoe It was in the Analysis of Human Sodium Iodide Symporter Immunoreactivity in Human Exocrine Glands article. Steph Steph, what have you read about iodine in the parietal cells of the intestines? Zoe I added more magnesium during my time off from Iodoral and it didn't help. I wonder what it is about iodine in the intestines. I have just recently read about iodine in the parietal cells of the intestines. Guest guest
I am sorry but I don't have time to do it right now. I have mid terms next week Friday and it is tax season for me - I do other peoples taxes and currently I have 3 to work on. I wish I could help but for now all Iodine "research" has ground to a halt. I hope to get back at it in two weeks when the taxes are done along with my mid term. Re: iodine and the intestines Steph, could you please say specifically what the article said.
