Hi,

Your T3 doesn't matter! RUN RUN RUN! See the docs list on the website

and go private if necessary. This man is dangerous.

I have had a t3 test and my t3 was 3.5 (range 3.0 - 6.2).

This is obviously low in the range.

Will t3 benefit me given these low results?

How can I convince my doctor to give me armour/cytomel? Or should I

just try and find another doctor? He says that it doesnt matter hat my

t3 is, and that i won't need to increase it. This is the

endocrinologist not my GP.

Thanks

Jonny

This is shocking Jonny and as far as I am concerned, this is a reportable matter to the GMC. Doesn't this man KNOW that if your FT3 is low, not one part of your body can function efficiently. I would definitely report this matter to your GP and tell him that you KNOW your FT3 is far too low and this endocrinologist could be the cause of you suffering greatly through his lack of knowledge - never mind lack of T3 replacement. As says, run a mile and as quickly as possible. Please write to me privately and let me know the name of this endocrinologist so if I hear of anybody else going to see him, I can warn them off.

No wonder the Internet hypothyroid forums are full of people who have been treated appallingly within the NHS. You must demand a change of endocrinologist. Remind me where you live again and I will see if we have anybody who can help you. You can be referred outside of your area if there is nobody who knows what they are doing in your area.

See how you get on after discussing this with your GP. I doubt he will prescribe you either synthetic T4/T3 combination or natural Armour Thyroid unless an endocrinologist has recommended it - but it is obvious that you need some T3 and you might, at the end of the day, have to go down the road of taking your health into your own hands if you want to get back to anything like normal again.

Hopefully with patient choice these idiot doctors will realise that they are not getting the referrals in (or the hospital managment will!) and either have to change or their specialism will have to close for lack of money!! In brief (and there are contracts and notice periods if you want to go into details!) Money follows the patient these days, if they dont get the patients through the doors of the hospital, they dont get the payment for it!. Cant be too soon can it!!

I know that many of us feel aggrieved with the doctors and the NHS, (me included!) but I really do think this is deliberate on the part of the DoH - to drive up quality and whereas the DoH/NHS probably cant do much individually about the many poor doctors in the NHS, patients can by using their Choice!

I happen to know that many GPs arent using choose and book and many PCTs are taking an alternative tack on this - so rather than trying to persuade GPs that they should use C & B, they are educating patients instead to know they have the right to choice of appt time and have a choice in where they go for the referral!

Remember extended choice comes into effect in April 2008!!

The doctors name was Dr Orme in Leeds.

I at home in Norfolk for the holidays now and am still waiting for my

ACTH test results as well as thyroid antibody, adrenal antibody tests.

I think I might see a GP here and ask to be referred to an

endocrinologist here. The last one I went to was private, because I

couldn't stand to wait 8 weeks to see him on the NHS.

If I see another doctor here in Norfolk privately, It will cost me

again won't it?

Is there any chance the GP could prescribe me armour?

Thanks

Jonny

If you are working in Leeds, I would ask to be referred to either Dr Hammond in Harrogate or to Dr Burrows in Huddersfield. Both treat with combination synthetic T4/T3 or natural thyroid extract (Armour). I know of no doctor in Norfolk or endocrinologist who knows about Armour or would be willing to prescribe it, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. If you see a doctor privately anywhere in the country, I am sorry to say that it will cost you money. Both Dr Burrows and Dr Hammond are NHS.
