Guest guest
Could you tell me what your hashi symtoms are. What type of thyroid meds to you take. Are you on amour? Do you have any depression and anxiety. If so what do you do for it. What ways are you controlling your's at this time or are you. Do you still deal with the hyper and hypo symtoms. Sorry for all the questions. Maybe you are doing something I have no clue about. I work and sometimes trying to do all the research and have the symtoms is difficult. Are you able to work? Sometimes I get scared and think that I won't be able to. Sometimes is takes me days to recover from working. I also have adrenal problems. Do you? I don't know which one really takes me down but it is scary when it happens. My daughter who is in college carries a lot of stuff that I just can't do. Thanks Ellen Re: Phone consult with Flechas about Iodine loss- Gene silencing I am trying to understand it also. Genes can be silenced by DNA methylation. A cancer cansilence the tumor surpressor gene in a cell through methylation... so the cell `forgets' how tofight... the search is on in gene therapy to find the way to re-allow gene expression in thesetypes of cancer cells... to wake it up. There seems to be different ways to approach this...byadministering drugs or unblocking agents, by adding genetically altered genes and nutrition, supplements. Gene therapy beats skin cancer in two men: study"the white blood cells had been armed with genes to spark production of proteins called T-cellreceptors. Those receptors recognized molecules on the melanoma cells and directed the white bloodcells to destroy the cancer"http://news./s/nm/20060831/hl_nm/cancer_genes_dcHere is a patent for an unblocking agent."administering an unblocking agent to the cancerous cell harboring a gene encoding the responseelement, thereby resulting in the expression of the response element."http://www.pharmcast.com/Patents100/Yr2006/April2006/041806/7029879_Iodine041806.htmNutrigenomic is the avenue that Dr. Flechas suggested. Research started in 2000 and is heatingup. Nutrigenomic is the avenue that uses specialized use of nutrition and natural supplements totry to manipulate the genes. He suggested phosphatylcholine (PC) and Betaine to silence theautoimmune gene that causes Hashimoto's. http://nutrigenomics.ucdavis.edu/nutrigenomics/index.cfm?objectid=972E8D2E-65B3-C1E7-0B3AE16C9F563594http://www.scienceblog.com/community/older/2003/D/20031874.htmlPhosphatylcholine (PC)PC is an essential fatty acid with a CHOLINE molecule that has a high concentration in thethyroid. It is chemically the same as lecithin. Nervous and circulatory lecithin is produced bythe liver if the diet is adequate. It is needed by every cell in the body and is a key buildingblock of cell membranes; without it, they would harden. Lecithin protects cells from oxidation andlargely comprises the protective sheaths surrounding the brain. BETAINE aka Trimethylglycine (TMG)functions very closely with CHOLINE, folic acid, vitamin B12 and S-adenosyl methionine SAMe. Allof these compounds function as "methyl donors." They carry and donate methyl functional groups tofacilitate necessary chemical processes. The donation of methyl groups is important to properliver function, cellular replication, and detoxification reactions. TMG also plays a role in themanufacture of carnitine and serves to protect the kidneys from damage.I have not found a reference yet that links these two supplements as to targeting the gene that isresponsible for Hashimoto's. I will if it exists. It is absolutely involving the use of fattyacids it seems to me...at this stage in my research anyway. I plan on calling Flechas as soon asI can learn enough as to not sound like a complete idiot on the subject. I plan on trying it assoon as the supplements get here. I'll keep you all posted as to whether or not the TPOanti-bodies fall."Nutrigenomic approach to understanding the mechanisms by which dietary long-chain fatty acidsinduce gene signals and control mechanisms involved in carcinogenesis."http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve & db=PubMed & list_uids=14698023 & dopt=AbstractNutrigenomic explanation for the beneficial effects of fish oil on cognitive function http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/reprint/81/6/1453-a--- mem_mem_me <maryellenmubellsouth (DOT) net> wrote:> I have hashi's...can you explain how to lower the anitbodies with DNA> Methylation. Guest guest
I HAD the worst depression of my life and panic attacks/anxiety primarily BEFORE I was taking thyroid hormone before I knew what was wrong. The symptoms and severity you experience sound like undertreated hypothyroidism; although I would also suspect a severe magnesium deficiency. II take Levoxyl 125mcg. have tried Armour many times; I was on it again for the last 2 weeks and even had a compounding pharmacy make me a custom blend. Others suggest that it would help the only real symptom I have left and that is, exercise induced fatigue. The truth is, I just don't feel good when I take Armour. In the last two weeks of taking it I have lost so much hair that I just had to stop. I have never been this bald before, I just hope it all grows back....it usually does. However, while on Levoxyl I went on vacation recently and ended up walking 10-15 miles a day and started to go hypothyroid with hair loss (including on legs). My blood work on levoxyl seems fine TSH 1.77 Free T3 304 (230-420) Free T4 1.4 (0.8-1.8). Maybe I don't need the extra T3 that Armour provides?? I just started taking an adrenal support supplement to see if things improve exercise-wise. I also take a pituitary glandular supplement. I take Cod liver oil and EPA/DHA (fish oil) supplements and they have totally solved the dry hair (what I have left) and the dry skin problem. Hypothyroidism can cause magnesium deficiency and apparently an essential fatty acid deficiency and the symptoms to BOTH are anxiety and/or depression. When I started supplementing magnesium glycinate these symptoms lessened drastically in severity especially when my thyroid was untreated. It is absolutely a necessary mineral for those with thyroid disease. Try this test to see how you score. http://www.thewayup.com/newsletters/081501.htm I would get a RBC analysis (red blood cell) http://doctorsdata.com/repository.asp?id=1273 to determine your mineral status. I think everyone should get some kind of indication of their status with a test like this. If your body won't tolerate a mineral that this test shows you lack...you need to find out why and find ways to tolerate it. Usually it is a series of minerals that need to be replaced at the same time so imbalances don't inadvertently cause or expose other mineral deficiencies. I have never been officially hyperthyroid... I have taken too much hormone and gotten jittery but backed off on the dosage and felt better the next day. If I didn't work out so much I would feel almost totally normal at this point. My heart palpitations are a thing of the past as are my chest pains. I am here because I want to reverse my hashimoto's before my thyroid is too damaged for that to be possible. I thought I had tried Iodine mega-loading but the latest test shows I absorbed nothing during the three months... same problem I had with magnesium initially! This just means I will try harder. I don't work now, I am taking time to solve my hashimoto's and to travel a bit. I got my supplements today and have begun the gene silencing therapy and I also am mega-dosing 100mg of iodine at this time! Boy am I going to have blood work and liver/kidney enzymes done every 10 days or so. I am adventurous but try to be very cautious about it at the same time...it's worked for me so far. --- Ellen <maryellenmu@...> wrote: > Could you tell me what your hashi symtoms are. Guest guest
I think the missing ingredients for you are cortisol (cortef) and DHEA. Your TSH is quite high. Guest guest
>From: " Ellen " <maryellenmu@...> >I am on adrenal support (medorl) cortef was not strong enough. Strong enough for what? You're on the equivalent of 30 mg of Cortef, were you on that much Cortef before you switched to Medrol? Cortef has a minerlocorticoid content to it which Medrol does not have. This can be bad for the sodium / potassium balance and is the reason that Cortef should be used before Medrol. Do you take a good Vitamin C supplement, something the adrenals really need? As for the magnesium questions, and others know a lot about that. You should listen to their answers. I have read that high cortisol levels deplete magnesium. That's common knowldege. However, I've also read a few times that those with low cortisol tend to retain a lot of magnesium. This makes sense to me, and my labs show my blood levels of magnesium as being almost at the top of the normal range. I don't feel well when I take magnesium, and I blame it on my low adrenals. Yet, those doctors who treat adrenal fatigue, tend to suggest magnesium, so maybe it is good for us. Guest guest
When I said adrenal support supplement I was talking about vitamins not cortisol. The magnesium sounds like too much too soon. Magnesium Glycinate capsules are very absorbable.
