I have gone thru about a pint and a half of Lugol's this year since

mid-March. I use it for gargling and scrubbing my gums twice a day

(diluted with pure water). I also apply it to my chronically sore

legs several times a week.

Back in March, I paid $31.50 for two 500 ml bottles (including

shipping) from Blue Spruce. That is under $1 an once cost. I

realize the cost of Lugol's has gone up a lot, but Jim Crow asks a lot

for Lugol's. I dearly wish Blue Spruce was still selling to

individuals.

Do you not take the Lugol's orally?

Re: Anyone here tried LUGOLS as well as IODORAL??

Janie, it is hard to compare painting Lugols with oral Iodoral. Painting on any iodine results in about 90% evaporating. So you may want to factor that in.Best wishes,Sharon

I have a suspicion, if one is using that for oral use, it might lose it's

potency before it's used up. For just oral use, that might even be a

lifetime supply. Just one ounce lasts a very long time. It's used up a lot

quicker if one is " painting " with it.

Is it possible that with the Lugols you were not

getting as much of a dose since there appears to be

some reason to question whether liquid iodine retains

its potency? If that is the case switching to Iodoral

would certainly make a difference.

Janie,

The skin absorption studies with iodine suggest that only a small proportion of the iodine is absorbed. So, I suspect that when you changed from topical Lugol's to oral Iodoral you greatly increased your dose.

I think you are right to stop the Iodoral for a couple days. Then, start with a lower oral dose of either Lugol's or Iodoral. The half life of iodine in the blood is supposed to be about 24 hours, so a couple days should be adequate.

This group seems to have two schools of thought. One recommends going slowly and stopping until symptoms stop if severe detox is encountered and then slowly restarting. The slow approach is my own bias.

The other thought system recommends continuing the iodine and perhaps increasing it to 50 mg when symptoms arise. Many have had good luck with this approach, but if you are working on your own without an iodine-literate practitioner, I think the slow approach is more appropriate for most people.

Iodine can be a very powerful supplement, it has different effects at different doses with different people, and we just don't know very much about it yet.

Abbe, I do know that applying Lugols topically produced the sameeffect that taking Iodoral orally produced--the breakout on my cheeks. So from that, it was working. But with Iodoral, you now have to addexcess sleepiness, achiness and a headache behind my ears. Sheesh. From posts so far, I know I need to return to drinking my watered downorange juice with 4000-5000 mgs Vit. C--haven't done it in a week dueto being out of town and having my son visit. My plan right now is tototally stop the Iodoral again for several more days..then resume on 6mgs for awhile......and slowly make my way up to a full tablet. Gracia, I know you say I should go right up to 50 mgs, but that justplain scares me to death--lol--when you consider that 12.5 has donethis to me. Janie

how would you feel if you took too little Armour? Would you blame the Armour?

Gracia

K, I changed because I was doing Lugol's topically and it's verymessy. Perhaps I should have simply put drops in orange juice as I sawsome of you do. lol. And I was curious about Iodoral. Your point about drinking enough is good, which I haven't done thispast week due to being out of town, then a visit by my son. I alreadyeat yogurt daily, and am returning to having at least 4000 mgs of Vit.C a day today. My last Vit. C drink was a week ago! lol.I did take 48 hours off, and yesterday, took half a tablet....and hadexcessive sleepiness last night, besides the achiness and headache.Grrr. I guess I'll have to stop it for several days.Janie> Janie - > if you didn't seem to have any trouble with the lugol's why change to> iodoral? Sciencestruff has a good price, but will they sell Lugol's to

individuals? On their website, it says: " Hazardous chemicals will be

shipped to Schools and Laboratories only! "

There was another marine Lugol's mentioned on this list a while back.

That Lugol's was half strength. Have you checked into the potency of

the Marine Lugol's offered by medexsupply?

Yes, thanks. I see that the msds sheet specifies the strength as

full stength Lugol's.

However, the Kent Marine site says it's Lugol's is sold only in one

ounce bottles. On the medexsupply site, they talk about the Kent

Marine Lugol's being 16 ounces. Yet the show a pic of the 1 ounce

dropper bottle. Are they really selling 16 one ounce bottles? Or it

is a misprint on their website? I suppose I'll have to order it to

find out.

I ordered from MedexSupply last night. When you set up the account you get a

$5.00 coupon you can use if the order is over $50.00. So I ordered two

bottles, it came to $50.44 and I got the $5.00 off. Shipping was $6.95 to my

address, weight was 2.5Ibs. Order says Iodine Lugols Prep Solution 16oz -

G-ACR66015.

When I asked them for a MSDS , they send me one from J. Crow's and it was

full strength Lugols.

Thanks, Joe! Sounds like we have a new good source for Lugol's. I've added it to our recommended suppliers in the Iodine Basics section of the links. Zoe
