Yes, your Progesterone is lower than your Estrogen.

I've had estrogen dominance for a long time. My estrogen levels have been in the 300-500 range for 2 years. I use progesterone cream and other herbs. What's this got to do with my period being much worse.heavier and painful now that I'm on Iodoral for over 2 months?

Hi ,

> Been on Iodoral 2 1/2 months. Just had a VERY VERY heavy period

(much more than usual) with much more severe cramping and clots than

usual. Is this a good sign? Does this mean good changes are

happening? I do have 2 fibroids but #3 is gone since Iodoral along

with my cysts on my ovaries...Any ideas why this would happen?

I noticed that my periods got a bit worse when I started iodine,

before they got better. I didn't have the same problem as you though -

for me it was that my cycle got shorter (indicating for me a

worsening of my estrogen dominance). It took at least 6 months before

things really improved a lot, and then everything improved very

quickly. I was probably taking less iodine than you though as I had

to start out very slow.

My personal opinion is that it is a healing phase, and like Gracia

recently wrote that can come with " effects. "

Best wishes,

Sharon

Maybe since the iodine has normalized thyroid production, the body

is looking to produce more cortisol to get the thyroid into the

cells. Cortisol is derived from progesterone. Your body may be

diverting more of it to that, leaving you not enough ciruclating

progesterone to oppose your estrogen dominance.

I can't remember how much iodoral you ae taking. that could make a difference. I haven't noticed that I need less hormones (I use estrogen/progesterone and egads testosterone) but I feel like I might be using them better.

I would say its a good thing...before I started taking iodine, I felt like my

cycles were not "complete"...and there was an abdominal heaviness

about me always..but not anymore.

(I also have had fibroids)

I had a couple of heavy cycles too when I started, and I know that the

uterus has been known to "decongest" when given the proper stimulus.

For me the heaviness has not returned, and my cycles are of normal

content, and no more clots. I have had more cramping than I have for

years..but I'm thinking thats just because my cells everywhere are getting

more of what they need to function properly. Before I had no feeling at all.

No cramps etc...and no feeling with intercourse either (sorry) but that is

also returning.

It might be, or it might be an indication of fibroids

or endometriosis. Have you had an ultrasound done to

have a look in there to make sure? It might also be a

Progesterone deficit causing the cramps, have you had

your hormone levels checked?

Interesting, I have had more cramping since starting the iodoral. I have

not had much cramping since starting with cortef. My cycle also became

very regular when I started the cortisone. My cycle is not as regular

either with iodoral. I am hoping this is temporary. Are clots not

normal? I always just assumed it was the lining which gets sloughed.

Small clots can be normal it is said...but anything larger than a quarter is not.

And I have been there. No fun.

I felt as if I had adrenal issues too and tried HC for a few months..

At first it took away some of the bloating, but that returned pretty quickly and

I didn't feel all that different on it.

That was a year ago or so. I have used an adrenal extract (animal) and that made

more of a difference for me. I don't take it anymore however, I feel like that area

is under control now, as I make sure I get enough sleep and I don't exercise when

I know my body doesn't have the energy. I used to be one of those who would go, go

go all the time. I was always busy doing something, and I know that played a part

in all of it. Now I am more aware of my level of fatigue and I eat and rest when I need

to. It was hard to let go of that behavior, but it was the best thing I could do for

myself.

I always had cramps when I was younger, nothing debilitating, just the usual

"warning" that things were working. That pretty much stopped 8 or 9 years ago.

I'm glad to have it back...small price to pay for feeling normal again.

I have fluctuated between hyper and hypo..I know how both of them feel.

During the hyper phase my periods were so scant and short I could almost

sleep thru it, and I had awful headaches.

When at the most hypo- (untreated) they were heavy and long and not

consistant. It would start and go for three days, then stop..and start again

around the fifth or sixth day and go for three or four more.
