Guest guest
People will stare. I once had a person tell me that I shouldn't wear my hair back or up because my ears stuck out. This was when I was wearing 2 hearing aids. So I told her, " The reason my ears stick out is because I have a hearing aid behind both of them " Her reply was, " Here I'm trying to help you, and you come out with some smart ass comment " . So I pulled out one of the hearing aids, and held it up for her to see and said, " No, it's not a smart ass comment, I am hard of hearing and wear 2 hearing aids " I also know my ears stick out. I'm deaf, not blind. That shut her up. The person staring at you may have thought it was a new type of telephone - they have them that stick in your ears. So don't take it personally when someone stares. You can always stare right back. But I'm certain she was trying to figure out exactly what it was, and was not meant in a cruel way. As I said, she may have thought it was a new type of cell phone, or even an IPOD that you wear at ear level, etc. With all the new technology out now a days, who knows what anyone is wearing. You're probably overly sensitive to having people stare at you. I either ignore them, or stare right back until they stop. I'm sick of people staring and treating me like I'm slow. I'm going to start saying what I feel. Have any of you gotten the creature treatment? How have you handled the situations? ____________________________________________________________ Let your voice be heard! Guest guest
I had decided to go job hunting. Yes, even with this economy! I approached a clerk for an application and her eyes immediately went to my processor. She shrank back and looked at me as if I had a 3rd eye in the middle of my forehead! I simply smiled, filled out the application and upon returning it she was still giving me that strange look. I'm a little tired of the looks and treatment I've gotten so I explained to her that I am hearing impaired and the thing she was staring at is a hearing processor that allows me to hear sounds she probably takes for granted. She responded that she didn't mean to stare but she'd never seen anything like it. Even if that company calls me I'm not interested! I'm sick of people staring and treating me like I'm slow. I'm going to start saying what I feel. Have any of you gotten the creature treatment? How have you handled the situations?

Guest guest
It depends upon the logo, Gerald. Magnets are supposed to be " attractive " <g>. Oh, forget it. They can also be repulsive to each other <g>. Virg If I am fated to wear something that looks like a hockey puck on my head can I put the New York Rangers logo on the magnet? Guest guest
I would imagine anything that is magetic could be used. Hmmm, you could pick up a magnetic washer about the size you want, put any sticker on it that you'd like, and stick it to your magnet. LOL...we can have something that hearing people can't!!! I should find a Support Our Troops sticker and stick that on my magnet. Why? My son is in Baghdad. While I'm writing I will also provide my testimony about music. As soon as I was starting to hear sounds I started listening to the radio station that I was familiar with...played mostly 60's and 70's music, which is what I'm familiar with. It took a great deal of listening and patience, but I eventually got to where I would recognize a song, and my memory would play along with the rhythm, and eventually my brain would start understanding what it was suppose to be hearing, and it put all the pieces together. Over time listening to music started improving greatly. When I say over time - it took about 6 months to initially get there, and it is a constant ongoing effort to keep my brain/hearing engaged. So, get after it - hook up your CI to the radio/CD player, whatever you have at hand, and start listening to your favorite songs. Best of luck to you! Oh, I have to also say I agree with you about the rude adults out there - who has to gall to laugh/tease/joke/ or just be plain rude about people with a disability. It totally disgusts me when I see adults, who should know better, behave this way. - what would be a good witty comment to say to these people to put them in their place - sort of like being a parent and telling them to go sit in the corner and think about what they just did/said. Obviously they didn't have parents to teach them proper manners in the first place. Last but not least, welcome back to the CI Hear group. I do hope we can provide you with encouragement to work with your CI hearing. It can and will get better for you. ________________________________ From: Cassandra Brown <renee42861@...> Sent: Wednesday, May 27, 2009 11:35:05 AM Subject: Re: Re:The Creature From Planet Med-El Where did you find decals?
