Guest guest
Hello all, I made up my mind to get a CI for my right ear. My left side was only implanted on July 28, 2008 and activated Sept 10th. I've been wearing a hearing aid on my right side which was always my " better " ear. So here I am 6 months later deciding to go bilateral. Why? I'm not 100% with understanding speech yet with my CI yet but I'm still working at it. I think most people will agree with me when I say biateral is better whether they're referring to HA's or CI's. I used to always say 'wait til I get both HA's on before you start talking to me!!'. So now I'm hearing things with my CI but not in my other ear with the HA. I still rely on my HA to understand speech but less and less. I actually find it annoying in some ways because I've grown up relying on BOTH ears to help me understand everything around me including speech. Sometimes I feel like I've hit a wall with understanding speech because my brain has never really used my left side for that purpose. It's been less than 5 months since activation so I'm still early in the game. I continue to work with my Audi in makiing ajustments and trying different programs. I'm making good progress, no doubt. So here I am at a crossroad...and deciding to take a leap of faith in getting my 'better' ear implanted. I believe I wil progress further and faster once I have the 2nd CI Right after my CI was activated, someone asked me if I would have the right side implanted. My response....'probably not for a few years " Good thing I'm adaptable to change... Larry
