Guest guest
Cassandra, If someone is making fun of you, and mimicking signing and LAUGHING AT YOU, then the comment, " You ignorant SLUT " is usually a good one to stop them. Or my favorite, " Well you cesspool of ignorance " . " Grow up " sometimes works. Yeah, some people never grow up and are mean adults just like they were probably bullies as children. If someone isn't exactly like them (perfect in their opinion) then they are to be ridiculed. But it's hurtful and they know it. Too bad there are so many insecure people out there, who have to raise their own self opinions by mocking others. The reason I said Creature from Med-El is because at the moment I was angry about a person who tried to mimic signing while talking to me and she and others around were laughing about it ____________________________________________________________ Digital Photography - Click Now. http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL2141/fc/BLSrjpTDvmS0Nmg621pPnkipW7dMtgGRmfkw\ kCI3L48xrtM0WdRZy1T6nTK/
Guest guest
Scrapbooking stores are a good source for stickers. Sometimes the craft section of your local WalMart will work, too. Cassandra, please just cut and paste the section you are replying to (if necessary to make sense of the reply) and don't send 4 or 5 other messages with each. Hard on the deafblind members. Thanks, Where did you find decals? I'd like to put ATL Braves on mine or music symbols or a Taurus symbol. Something racy would be good too! Guest guest
I have had the implant for 22 years and yes people notice it as I wear my hair short. People look at things that are unfamiliar in attempt to understand. In this society, so many people have been taught not to ask and so they end up staring instead. As soon as I see the eye contact I take it as an advantage to teach and educate. I have told my story thousands of places, from the grocery line to a social gathering, because of the invitation of this " eye contact " . I even have a business card that I share which on the back side has the criteria, links to the online manufactures and a link to my story that is on line (http://www.ciafonline.org/ruthfox.html). I invite people to make contact if I can provide more information, help or support when they share with me that their mother, father, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, cousin, friend or even co worker or neighbor has a serious hearing problem. I have also watched the implant population grow from the 3000 world wide when I was implanted to over 150,000 now. Part of that has happened because of people like myself sharing our stories. I don't know where you heard about the implant as an option to facilitate hearing, but there are thousands of people who could benefit, who don't know about it yet. I now also live my life in a wheelchair, and the same happens. I don't have as enthusiastic of a story to share, but I try to put people at ease by making a light reply about my chair giving me my freedom, independence, or in the case of children, I just ask if they like my wheels. This opens them up to chatting about other things after their curiosity is resolved. People soon don't see me as the person in a chair with a strange contraption on my head. They see me as the person I am because we have gotten past the differences that made a barrier for them in their ability to be at ease with me. Guest guest
The reason I said Creature from Med-El is because at the moment I was angry about a person who tried to mimic signing while talking to me and she and others around were laughing about it! I was furious and nearly in tears after it happened. I was also angry about the way the receptionist had reacted to my processor. I've had children to question and react differently but that's alright. I understand a child's curiosity or feeling of wariness when they see something they don't understand. It's the simpletons and narrow-minded adults I encounter who tick me off! Cassandra > > People > soon don't see me as the person in a chair with a strange > contraption on my > head. Guest guest
Doesn't Ruth have a great attitude? I've only been here since Sunday and she's already motivated and encouraged me to give music another chance, this time with patience! Guest guest
, I have not tried this approach but have heard it works for others. Instead of getting angry, thank the person and smile. It may shame them into rethinking what they did or said. Another thing that a list member shared was, when someone says something inlind, rather than ignore it, turn around and ask the person to repeat it. " Pardon me, what did you say? I'm not sure I heard you correctly. " Its not likely the person will repeat something bad. LOL *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* The careful application of terror is also a form of communication. & Dreamer Doll ke7nwn E-mail- rclark0276@... Guest guest
You know , when this was suggested I thought, wow, now there is the right thing to do - especially when there are other people around, and you say " Pardon me, what did you say? " rather loud to call attention to the situation, that person will be doubly shamed. Now, can we just get my old feeble brain to just remember this come back????  ________________________________ From: <rclark0276@...> Sent: Wednesday, May 27, 2009 12:55:11 PM Subject: Re: The Creature From Planet Med-El , I have not tried this approach but have heard it works for others. Guest guest
Man - that would have to be awfully LOUD, !!! To go across the 1/2 the state of ND, all of MT and ID, and all of OR. And then to be able to be heard above the sound of the ocean surf.  Hmmmm, do not think I can do it. Let's see if I can get a little bit closer, shall I?  LOL  ________________________________ From: <rclark0276@...> Sent: Wednesday, May 27, 2009 1:05:27 PM Subject: Re: The Creature From Planet Med-El Right , better when others are within range!
