Guest guest
, I'm with you on those tryouts! As for trying Bipolar disorder, I dated someone once who was bipolar and wouldn't acknowledge it or take medication. He nearly drove me and everyone who knew him to distraction. I'm glad you confront your problem with it and deal with it just as you have your hearing loss problems. Cassandra From: <rclark0276@...> Subject: Re: Rechargeable Battery/Battery Charger Date: Tuesday, May 26, 2009, 7:41 PM , Right, exactly. What good is braille to one who does not know braille. And I would not want anyone to even know basic skills when " trying on " a disabllty for a day or week. Rather, I'd want them to experience what happens when disability strikes. Let them soak in it and begin to appreciate the hurdles they suddenly face. Let them ponder on the difficulties involved in learning coping skills and at the same time, let them learn just how difficult it is to even get to the point of accessing those services and programs which are being drastically cut back even as we speak. Think we could make money at this? Run a program where people sign up to try a disability for a week, and pay for it?! Guest guest
, No, its ok. We been friends long enough to know that we are faced with more than one issue and like it or not, we have to juggle a lot of things at one time. You are a pretty darn good juggler if you want to know. Shedding tears now and then does more than shed tears, it relieves a lot of pressure. And you hit on the key here, look ahead, not back. Hugs Mona and hands her a strawberry mocha. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Once I thought I was wrong, now I'm not so sure! & Dreamer Doll ke7nwn E-mail- rclark0276@... Guest guest
Renne, You just want hot chocolate. A mocha is chocolate and coffee. LOL I dont have a belief system, I just soak up the vibes from around me. One thing I dont listen to is, " well look at that person, he/she is worse off than you, count your blessings! " All of us as individuals face similar issues. Many people have hidden issues and that is why I feel this way. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Dolphins: Don't trust a species that's always smiling, its up to something! & Dreamer Doll ke7nwn E-mail- rclark0276@... Guest guest
, Exactly. A good cry can do wonders. Now that I had my good cry yesterday and just finished reading Alice's inspiring message, it's time to think about all of the good things in my life that make me smile. By the way, thanks for the strawberry mocha!
Guest guest
Cassandra, I'm sorry the person you dated wasn't med-compliant. I have to admit that I haven't always been med-compliant myself. During a manic episode I stopped taking my meds for a week because I felt on top of the world. It wasn't long before my symptoms worsened and I quickly learned how important meds are for feeling the best I can. I know I will still experience episodes of mania and depression, but with meds, they aren't as frequent or as severe. It saddens me every time I hear about a person with bipolar who refuses to take meds especially since research indicates that the suicide rate for those who do not take meds is 15-20%. It also repeatedly emphasizes the fact that if bipolar is left untreated, it can lead to progressively worse manic episodes as one ages. Not taking meds is refusing to take responsibility for one's illness not to mention the fact that it isn't fair to family or friends. Okay, it's time to get off my soapbox for now. LOL. Guest guest
Cassandra, I was adopted as well. I also experienced some medical neglect during my childhood. Hearing aids and ear surgery were recommended for me at age 3, but for reasons I do not know, my parents' health insurance would not cover the cost. Fortunately, my hearing loss was only mild at the time. However by age 15, my loss became moderately-severe and one of the resource teachers at my high school contacted my parents and told them I should have my hearing tested because my speech was becoming more difficult to understand and I was no longer responding to my name when I was called upon in class. I received my first pair of hearing aids at age 15 and continued to do well with them until age 24 when my hearing loss became severe-profound. It was at this time that I began learning alterantive communication techniques for the deafblind. I continued using tactile sign (primarily PSE, but also ASL and SEE at times). In 2001, my ENT referred me to a specialist who worked with MEIs (middle ear implants). After I saw this specialist, I was told that I didn't have enough hearing to qualify. When I asked about CIs, I was told that I had " a little too much hearing " and to come back when I experienced another drop in hearing. My speech discrimination was 30-40% at the time, so I could hear a little, but certainly not well enough to communicate in noise or from a certain distance. My world changed for the better in December 2004 after I received my first CI. A month later, the doors of communication opened up for me and I began a new chapter in my life. What's ironic is the fact that my initial CI was activated exactly 10 years after I lost my hearing. Not a day goes by that I'm not thankful for my CIs and the wonderful hearing they give me. Guest guest
- it is so refreshing to hear your thoughts on this. And you know, the same can also be said about doing something about your hearing. Just as being responsible to take our meds for bipolar will help our relationships with family and friends, doing something about our hearing also helps family and friends so they can be around us and communciate with us easier. I for one admire what you have done!! You've overcome some pretty difficult obstacles that were placed in your life! You are aMAZing. And for that, here is another strawberry mocha for you. I wish I didn't like coffee sometimes just so I could have one.  I know, now that it is in the upper 70's here, I'll take a low fat strawberry ice cream shake, provided it is a thick one.  Yum.  ________________________________ From: " lkozlik@... Guest guest
Truthfully, ? Well you know me pretty well. LOL Actually, I would love to go picking strawberries and blueberries. We have both but not in walking distance. It would be fun to do it and listen to the birds helping us with their song except the crows which are the nastiest most arrogant critters around. Guest guest
, I happen to love strawberries and blueberries. I can still remember when I attended a camp for the blind as a child when we used to pick blueberries and make homemade ice cream. Those were the days. LOL. As far as crows are concerned, I couldn't agree with you more. Why did G*d create them anyways? I know -- to annoy humans. LOL.
Guest guest
To me, crows' cries are the most awful sound I hear with my CI.
Guest guest
, I can't say that I disagree. The sound of crows really puts me on edge. I really can't stand that sound. Another sound I hate is that of a motorcycle. They're too loud and make me nervous. On the positive side, some of my favorite sounds are a child's laughter, thunder, birds singing, music and my boyfriend saying " I love you. " (Sorry if the that sounded mushy. I had to say it because it's true! LOL.) > To me, crows' cries are the most awful sound I hear with my CI. --
Guest guest
, I need an emergency mocha. I can't type to save my life today. LOL. Make it peppermint this time please. To make this CI related, I have a quick question. Has anyone noticed the poor sound quality of videos on YouTube? Is it just me or are most of their videos such that they are distorted, weak and fade in and out during playback?
