This morning Governor Doyle signed the FIRST ever HA/CI Insurance

combination here in the states. It was a HUGE moment that is incredibly

moving when you see the kids in the pictures with him. I hope somewhere

online we can get these posted. I am on dial up, so have issues there.

When I get a chance I will send them off list to whomever is able to get

them posted.

What is so very special about this bill is that it had a broad base of

supporters as it was written. We were disappointed last year that the bill

died at the end of the session for lack of a vote on the floor of our

Assembly. However, all was not lost for all our MONTHS of multi faceted

intense efforts during the last legislative session. We learned so much,

made allies in the Capitol and this made such a difference this time

around.

The children were the main event and I am so very proud of each and every

one of them who came to the Capitol and told their story, along with

parents. WI Hands and Voices parents were the parent group and HLAA-WI

supported them wholeheartedly!

I am proud to be a Wisconsonite. We have our Packers and Brewers that some

folks crack jokes about, but we are a great progressive state on this issue!

For those who saw the posts about the petition sent to Governor Doyle to

veto this bill, I would like to add that this does NOT represent the view of

most of the Deaf community in WI. We had no protestors at this event, which

did surprise me a little given the chatter on the blogs.

It is a wonderful day and what a FITTING time during Better Hearing and

Speech Month for this to happen!
