There's a lot of stuff out there that claims to boost the immune system. And it actually might. The trouble with PID kids is that when you boost a mal-functioning immune system, you very possible stimulate an auto-immune response. This has been proven with echinacea (forgive my spelling). There is a warning for PID kids to not use this particular drug because it has proven to stimulate auto-immune reactions. Auto-immune reactions are when the immune system starts to attack self. That's the LAST thing our kids need. There's a lot of probiotics out there that is more familiar with that may help the gut deal with so much antibiotics, etc. But, be very careful -- run it by your immunologist and tread carefully about " boosting " the immune system. Guest guest
, I agree with Dale. There may be natural remedies that help but many hurt. I wrote an intro article about nutrition/immune for IG Living magazine last year. It's super basic but, if you are interested, it is archived on-line: http://www.igliving.com/ In the lastest issue, I wrote an article re: probiotics and interviewed a probiotic expert( Elmer, Professor Emeritis of Medicinal Chemistry and author of a comprehensive book on probiotics...go to amazon.com for more info). You can get a hard copy of that article/issue right now, if you subscribe. It may be archived as well. I have found that nutrition is so very individualized and without the guidance of a physician, with expertise in nutrition, and/or clinical dietitian, it is very difficult (not impossible) to find effective/safe " natural " remedies. mom to CVIDer

Guest guest
, The Norway way to sleep, as told by a friend, is to crumble 2 Saltine crackers & add enough cold milk to soak them. Let the crackers absorb the milk for a few minutes & eat just prior to retiring. It took about a week before the crackers-milk solution helped. I thought it was gross the first few times, but now I think nothing of it. Also, I just read in my organic food cooperative monthly newsletter to eat a piece of string cheese 20 minutes before retiring, something about protein aiding sleep. Guest guest
, I've read that eating cheese before bedtime can induce sleep, so I always try to snack on a slice or two of cheese at 9pm. I've never heard of eating Saltines dipped in milk. It sounds strange, but I'm willing to give it a try. Thanks for the suggestions!
Guest guest
, Interesting and I know there are as many home remedies as there are, uh, something. LOL But milk has always been one such remedy, warm, or hot. Perhaps warm. Maybe I should try it myself. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor. & Dreamer Doll ke7nwn E-mail- rclark0276@... Guest guest
I also wanted to add that when I make hot chocolate, I make it on the stove or if I'm feeling lazy, I mixed Hershey's syrup with milk and heat it in the microwave.
