Guest guest
Hey Sis, Want to do it before the insurance changes its mind (if it has a mind to change). Figure the way things are going, insurance will say, " If you have one, you don't need 2 " . Even though the current insurance didn't pay for the implant I have. Besides it gives me the incentive to clean up around here, so people coming to visit won't say, " What a slob! " - going bilateral??? Guest guest
Hi , Are you using disposable or rechargable batteries? If you are using disposables, try using a different cassette. If that does not work, take out the batteries, clean up the little brass contacts visible inside the spaces with something abrasive. Then gently bend then so they make a firmer contact with the battery surfaces. In the case of either sort of battery, clean up the contacts on the top. I had this problem, and worse, but cleaning up all the contacts stopped it dead. Hope this helps > > Hi everyone, > > For the past several days my right Freedom processor has been giving me battery warning beeps 10 minutes after I put in fresh batteries. >
Guest guest
, Thank you for responding. I need some clarification. By " cassette, " do you mean the battery cage? Also, what do I need to bend? I'm afraid to do anything to my processor for fear of damaging it. I can't see, so I'd rather not do anything that may cause further problems. I cleaned the battery contacts, but am still encountering the same issue. I've been turning my right Freedom processor back on every time it turns itself off. I'm doing this because when I only wear my left CI, I feel dizzy.

Guest guest
, Separate the controller from processor then put together again. Swap the controllers between left and right. If neihter of those two steps fixes the problem, I would see your audi asap. I do hope its that simple tho. I like to take the easy steps in troubleshooting. Since the processor half contains the maps, swapping the controllers will work. Guest guest
, I sent my audi an e-mail requesting an earlier appointment, so I should hear from her tomorrow. My processor is having more problems because now it is turning itself off every 2 minutes. I've given up in frustration and am just wearing my left CI. I tried wearing my right 3G with the volume turned down, but it's still painful and everything I hear sounds robotic and if I'm underwater. I'm not a very happy camper because I can't understand speech very well with my left CI despite what my test scores indicate.
Guest guest
, What a great idea! I'll try switching the battery cages and let you know if that works. Thanks!
Guest guest
, Its my goal to turn you back into a happy camper. Normally we dont need to separate the controller from processor except when changing mic covers but when things start acting weird, its an easy potential solution. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* If drinking and driving is illegal, then why do bars have parking lots? & Dreamer Doll ke7nwn E-mail- rclark0276@... Guest guest
, *sigh* The same thing is happening to my left CI now. I'm guessing that the battery cage needs to be replaced. However, I'm just going to have my audi send the entire processor back to Cochlear just in case there is something in the processor that is causing the battery cage to lose power. Frustrated,
Guest guest
Everything described here can be caused by accidentally placing hearing aid-type 675 cells in a CI with high current drain. Guest guest
, Now I'm confused. Do you want me to change the controller on each processor or the battery cage? I've already changed the battery cage to no avail.
Guest guest
, Yes., its a process to eliminate possible suspects. If swapping the cages creates the same issue on the other side, there is the suspect. If no change, try swapping the controllers. If still no change, then your audi would be the next step because then the processor is suspect. The key is, do one thing at a time. Dont get frustrated yet. Take your time. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* The sooner you fall behind, the more time you'll have to catch up. -- & Dreamer Doll ke7nwn E-mail- rclark0276@... Guest guest
, Thanks for the encouragement and clarification. I guess part of my frustration comes from the fact that it's Mother's Day and I lost my mother 4 years ago to pancreatic cancer. If it were any other day, I probably wouldn't be as frustrated as I am. I'm just feeling a great deal of emotion right now and the problems I'm having with my processor isn't helping. I tried changing controllers, but am still having the same issue. I guess I'll need to have my audi send my right processor to Cochlear for a replacement. Guest guest
, Did you try first with only the right battery cage in the left processor? Then, only the right controller (with left battery cage)?

Guest guest
, I wonder if you are a step ahead of me. My audie told me there is something wrong with the computer chip of one processor. It is working fine now, but she said once it starts to cut out, I will need to send it in for repair & rely on the 3G.
Guest guest
, That's my thought as well since I tried exchanging controllers and battery cages without success. I'm getting used to hearing with my left CI only, but will be glad when I can finally see my audi. I tried using my right 3G again, but I just can't tolerate it. It's too painful (even with the volume turned all the way down). I also don't like how everything sounds robotic and as if I'm underwater. Guest guest
Hi , Since there are 3 parts involved, you have to eliminated the problems one at a time. It could be bad batteries, but it seems odd that all of them would kick out after 15 minutes. It could be a bad cage that holds the disposable batteries - in which case you'd need a replacement. It could be a bad controller that holds the battery cage or the rechargeable battery as well. Using the rechargeables eliminates the battery cage as the problem - or confirms that it is the problem. Because if it works OK with rechargeables, then the controller is good, and the rechargeables are good, so it's the battery cage that holds the disposable batteries that is the culprit. As Sherlock Holmes once said, " When you've eliminated all other possibilities, the one that remains, no matter how unlikely, MUST be the problem " or something like that. HOpe that solves the problem. Meanwhile, get the 3Gs mapped at the same time you get your Freedom's mapped EVERY time. That's what I do. I noticed on MINE that it was " motorboarding " every day when I put it on. Drives me to distraction. Check out to make sure it's all connected, move my hair aside (and I have a LOT of hair), and fuss around for ages. Today I looked and somehow I have a 1 power magnet instead of my usual 2 power. No clue how that got in there, but we were fussing around at my last mapping, and someone slipped a lower strength magnet in and kept my number 2. I wrote the audi and mentioned I want to switch them back again next Tues when I have an appt to see about going BILATERAL!! I tried your suggestion of using a rechargeable in my right processor. 15 minutes have passed and it's still working. What do you make of that? Could it be the batteries? I'm going to try the newer batteries I have and see if I still encounter the same problem. I'll let you know if I do. ____________________________________________________________ Digital Photography - Click Now. http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL2141/fc/BLSrjpTDvmR60Z1Gofn0RDWLm7zu78O87tMr\ gm4pqQpwAGKgTnflqwYdaMY/
Guest guest
Mona, It's the battery cage that holds the disposable batteries that is the culprit. So take it in and have it replaced by Cochlear. Problem solved. Free mochas for all. Meanwhile, keep the rechargeables charged. You might also try a different battery cage in a different controller, and see if it works or not. Just take the batteries that you've been tossing after 2 minutes and use them again. If you have more than one battery cage, switch it and use a different controller (that holds the battery cage) and see if that works. , I just tried using a new set of batteries, but my processor is still turning itself off after 2 minutes. However, when I use my rechargeable, it is fine. Hmmm. ____________________________________________________________ Digital Photography - Click Now. http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL2141/fc/BLSrjpTDvmSXjtKi39iDXYMw7fbG4vcXwhPm\ Lj2rsHt5TwmKH1AUKg7FrmY/
Guest guest
, I haven't been able to bring in my 3Gs to be mapped since my audi and CI surgeon have been so concerned about the dizziness and nausea I've been having. However, I'll make sure to bring them at every mapping from now on. Congrats on deciding to go bilateral! I wish you all the best!
Guest guest
, I tried using the left battery cage in my right processor, but it's still turning itself off every 2 minutes. I've also swapped controllers to no avail. As you said, it's most likely the battery cage. I'll talk to my audi about this when I see her on the 20th. Guest guest
Hi , Both of my processors came with several extra battery holders. Now that I'm bilateral I have a bunch of extra one.
